Student answer (Band 4.5)

WORKING WEEK SHOULD BE SHORTER AND WORKERS SHOULD HAVE A LONGER WEEK ..AGREE OR NOT?

I thought that if working week is shorter so people burdanize and do not work properly .Workers should have a longer week beacause sometime workers dont know how to work so they need longer week.because when week is shorter and work is long so workers face many difficulties .because those people who know how to work thy can do it immediately and those people who dont know they face many difficulties so they want more time .Example:When i join university i dont know how to use computers or laptops because before joining university even i dint knoe how to log in or log out .so when the first lab task given to me i completed it very difficult and this lab task submisssion date is on next day so therefore my thought is that when some work start so the time should be longer .because those people who dont know first they learn the work from internet or some other persons so it takes alot of time and then when they perform it they also face difficulties and try again and again it also takes a lot of time so if time is shorter the people who dont know how to perform they will be fail.I dont say that always longer week but in start i thought more time should be given so workers complete their task easily .if working week is long the people who dont know how to work they will perform also perform well because they learn completely in long time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a recognisable position: you support allowing more time, particularly for workers who are unfamiliar with a task, and the university computer-lab example illustrates this concern. However, the response only minimally addresses the actual proposal of a shorter working week and longer weekend. It shifts between needing more time to learn a new task and having a longer working week, without explaining how a longer weekend would help or considering its effects on workers or employers. The example is personal but does not clearly establish why the working week itself should be longer. Develop reasons that directly answer whether the week should be shorter, and explain how each example supports that position. The response meets the stated length requirement; 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response has a basic line of thought: unfamiliar workers need time to learn, and you illustrate this with your first computer-lab task. However, ideas are not arranged into clear paragraphs, and the argument repeatedly circles back to the same point. The frequent use of “because” and “so” creates a mechanical chain rather than showing distinct relationships between claims. For example, the shift from the lab deadline to “when some work start so the time should be longer” is not clearly connected to the question about a shorter working week and longer weekend. Organise the response into an introduction, separate supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion. Use linking phrases selectively and make each paragraph advance one clear reason.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the central idea, and words such as “difficulties,” “perform,” and “submission date” relate to the example. However, the range is basic and repetitive, especially the repeated use of “work,” “time,” “longer,” and “people who don’t know.” Several spelling and word-choice errors make the message less clear, including “burdanize,” “beacause,” “submisssion,” and “fail” where “fail” is used to mean that workers will not succeed. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “completed it very difficult.” Build a more precise vocabulary for workplace schedules and learning, and check spelling and collocations. This would help you express the distinction between extra time for training and a longer working week.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, using clauses with “because,” “when,” and “if,” but control is inconsistent and the sentence patterns are repetitive. Errors in sentence structure and verb forms appear in examples such as “when some work start” and “those people who know how to work thy can do it immediately.” Articles and agreement are also unreliable, as in “when the first lab task given to me,” while punctuation and spacing often make sentence boundaries unclear. These problems sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then combine them accurately with subordinate clauses. Check subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and punctuation when editing.
