Student answer (Band 5.5)

The working week for workers should be reduced with addition of longer weekend. I completely disgree with the suggestion of shorter working week for labours as well as the extension of weekend.

In my opinion, the cost of the smaller working days in a week means reduction in financial reward as workers are paid according to their working hours. The decrease in monetary reward can make worker,s family life vulnerable in term of their basic needs. The daily expenditures of working class are dependent on their weekly eranings. The engagement of full week working of labour class enables them to enjoy their weekend with their family by spending their salaries on entertaiment and purchasing good food. by reducing working hour, they would not be able to afford happy time with their family with small amount of income. Furthermore, thier limited salary would not be suffcient to cope with longer weekend.

On the other hand, reduction in working week hour mean performing less amount of productive work which result in smaller quatitiy of commodities and services. In face of large population growth fall in labour hours can slow down the process of econmic development. Slow econmic growth adversly effect the standard of living of people. Therefore, familied working class can be suffer from anxiety and physical diseses due to lack of financial resources Further, less production mean less emploments and less expenditures which will perpetuate the cycle of poverty among the poor. In this way the bridge between the rich and the poor class would be widened with the pa

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the start: you disagree with shorter working weeks and longer weekends. You give relevant reasons, including the possibility of reduced earnings for workers and lower production affecting economic development and employment. These points address the question, but some are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that workers use their salaries to enjoy weekends does not clearly show why a longer weekend itself would be harmful, and the link between fewer working hours and a wider rich–poor gap needs more support. The response also ends mid-sentence (“with the pa…”), so the final point is incomplete. Develop each main reason with a clear explanation or specific example, and address the proposed longer weekend directly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph about workers’ income, and a second paragraph about production and the economy. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore,” “On the other hand,” and “Therefore” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several consequences are packed together without clear explanation, and the final sentence is cut off. The contrast marker “On the other hand” is also not fully apt, since the second paragraph continues supporting your disagreement rather than presenting an opposing view. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, explain its steps in sequence, and use transitions that accurately reflect the relationship between points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “financial reward,” “productive work,” “economic development,” and “cycle of poverty,” which helps communicate your main concerns. However, the range is limited by repeated references to workers, income, and production, while frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word forms sometimes make the message harder to read. Examples include “disgree,” “eranings,” “entertaiment,” “quatitiy,” and “emploments.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “smaller working days” and “the extension of weekend.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing common collocations, for example “shorter working week,” “reduced earnings,” and “a longer weekend.” This would make your ideas clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer, complex sentences, including “In my opinion, the cost… means reduction…” and the sentence beginning “In face of large population growth…”. However, errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation occur often enough to make some relationships difficult to follow. For example, “reduction in working week hour mean performing” has problems with the article, number, and verb agreement, while “familied working class can be suffer” has an incorrect verb pattern. The long sentence about population growth and economic development also needs clearer clause boundaries. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and checking articles and singular/plural forms; then use shorter sentences where a complex structure becomes difficult to control.
