Student answer (Band 5.5)

The question of whether working days ought to be shorter and the employees should have a longer holiday has attracted considerable attention in recent years. While there are different perspective on this issue, I firmly believe that working days per week should be reduce, primarly because people have the oppurnity to spend more time with there families and they will get enough time for peace of mind.

One of the strongest arguments in favour of this position is that if people spend more time with their love ones will have a lot of benefits. This is particularly significant because if the person is spending time with their friends and family and they are happily pursuing their hobbies in the long weekends. For example if their families are happy and the employee are also happy so their will be very limited distraction for the employee to not focus on work in their work days. As a result, they will be more focus on their work without worries of spending time with there families because they knew they have the long weekend coming.

Another important consideration is having peace of mind at work is the most important thing for work and productive task such as office work and other tasks they will be performing as a worker so calm mind and stressless person will perform very will in that condition. For instance, research show that if your mind is clear and calm you will be able to do your task in less time compare to busy and stressful mind. you will not be able focus on your work.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that working week ought to be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. The main reasons for this position are giving enough time to families and friends and peace of mind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I firmly believe”) and conclusion, and both reasons—more time with family and improved peace of mind—are relevant to the question. You also explain a possible benefit for employers, linking happier workers with fewer distractions and better focus. However, the family argument is developed more fully than the point about calmness and productivity, which relies mainly on a general claim about research rather than a specific example or explanation. The response addresses the task, but some ideas remain broad or unclear. To strengthen it, explain more precisely how a shorter working week would improve wellbeing or performance, and support each reason with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. Linking phrases such as “One of the strongest arguments,” “For example,” and “As a result” help show the intended progression. However, some connections are difficult to follow because ideas are repeated or joined awkwardly. For instance, the family paragraph moves from spending time with loved ones to employee focus without clearly explaining each step, while the second body paragraph repeats the idea of a calm mind. Improve cohesion by giving each paragraph a clear sequence—claim, explanation, example, result—and use pronouns and linking expressions only when their references are clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “distraction,” “productive,” “stressful,” and “pursuing their hobbies,” and your meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision. Examples include “oppurnity,” “primarly,” “stressless person,” and “perform very will”; these make the writing less natural and can slow the reader. Some phrases are also vague or repetitive, such as “peace of mind” and “spending time with their families.” Build a more accurate range by learning common word partnerships and checking spelling and forms. For example, use “opportunity,” “less stressed,” and “perform effectively” in these contexts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if people spend more time…” and cause-and-effect sentences beginning “As a result.” The main ideas can usually be understood, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “working days per week should be reduce” needs a passive form, and “the employee are also happy” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence beginning “This is particularly significant because…” is also difficult to complete grammatically. Work on building complete clauses and checking agreement and verb forms; shorter, accurately controlled sentences will make your reasoning clearer while you continue practising complex structures.
