Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that employess should work less in week days and they should have longer time for leisure at the end of week. I disagree with this opinion because if a worker work less he will not make enough money for his family and himself and the businesses will face financial problems and they also will not meet their project dead lines.

The main reason why i disagree is that if labour work some days a week he would not be able to meet his financials. This is because companies pay mainly on hourly base and if labour do work shorter they will not be provided with their complete salary. For example, a company name Mughal steel in our city Lahore, is paying its worker $5 an hour and working class who have childrens and others family members has to work more to pay their bills. Therefore, working short will results in low income and also too much cost will lead to strees and anxiety for a person.

Another important reason is that if companies are working on a project but workers have 2 or more days off in a week they will face disgrace. In other words they will not get more projects and will have to quit market. For instance, a construction company name Safra developers had a government project which to build a highway in 2 years they accepted the project and started working on it. In the begining, they were working rapidly and smoothly but then the workers demanded 2 holidays a week and they accepted the request and gave them holidays. As a result, company did nt completed the project on time and also faced financial problems which resulted in bankruptcy.

In conclusion, i disagree with view of longer holidays and shorter working days because workers will face financial problems and busnisses will result in financial ruins.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you disagree because shorter working weeks could reduce workers’ income and harm businesses’ ability to complete projects. Both reasons are relevant, and the examples about Mughal Steel and Safra Developers show an effort to support them. This meets the task well overall. However, the first argument assumes that shorter hours necessarily mean lower pay, without considering salaried workers or explaining how a shorter week would affect pay in different workplaces. The construction example is more fully narrated, but its link to a generally longer weekend is not entirely convincing. To strengthen the response further, qualify these claims and explain more directly why the proposed change would cause the outcomes you predict.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Signposting such as “The main reason,” “Another important reason,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the argument. The examples are placed with the relevant points, giving the essay a logical progression. At times, however, connections are mechanical or the reference is unclear. For example, “they will face disgrace” does not clearly explain what consequence the company faces, and “As a result” introduces several outcomes without distinguishing how each follows. Use more precise links between claims and evidence, and make pronouns such as “they” refer unmistakably to workers or companies. This would make the progression smoother and more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “financial problems,” “hourly,” “project,” “salary,” and “bankruptcy.” Some choices also show an attempt to express consequences, such as “stress and anxiety.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: “financials” is not the right noun for personal finances, “working short” is unnatural, and “financial ruins” is an awkward phrase. There are also misspellings such as “employess,” “strees,” and “begining.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make it less fluent. Build a bank of accurate workplace collocations and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if a worker work less” and a longer example introduced by “In other words.” This gives the response some structural variety, but control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences. Subject–verb agreement errors appear in “a worker work” and “company … did nt completed”; the latter also has an incorrect verb form after “did.” Other examples include “companies pay mainly on hourly base,” where the article and sentence pattern are not controlled, and “workers have 2 or more days off … they will face,” where the conditional relationship needs clearer construction. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the main meaning remains recoverable. Practise accurate conditional forms, agreement, and sentence boundaries before extending complex sentences.
