Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many people spend a large proportion of his time at work that force them to think for a long weekend. I believe that workers should be provided a longer weekend and working week should be short.

Employees often feel tired after working for a long duration. They may be depressed and tensed which effect their health. A long weekend make them feel happy and relax. This can improve their mental as well as phyical health. In result, it may enhance their performance. For instance, when a sales officer works for a long duration, it may effect their physical and mental well-being and feel them exhaust which often leads to poor performance.

On the other hand, Parents and other family members want to spend some time with their loved ones. A long weekend provides an oppurtunity to spend quality time with their family and friends. People can complete household tasks and enjoy with each other. For example, When a person helps their family in making some food, spend quality time and play any game , it will improve their relationship. As a result, a person can concentrate on his work and effenciently perform his tasks. It will cause good productivity at work.

In contrast, people who spend much of his time at work instead of family, it will badly effect their health and relationships. This often leads to a null performance.

In conclusion, although it is important to give your time to work but there should a proper time for family and your health. I believe that, giving most of the time to family members is better than to work which will reduce their exhaustion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support a shorter working week and longer weekend, and you give relevant reasons concerning workers’ health and family relationships. The discussion of rest leading to improved performance is relevant, and the examples of a sales officer and family activities help illustrate your points. However, the two main arguments are not developed equally: the sales-officer example repeats the health-and-performance claim rather than showing it in detail, while the family example is somewhat general. The final paragraph also shifts towards saying that family time is better than work, rather than directly weighing the proposed shorter week and longer weekend. Explain how reduced working hours could benefit workers and address any practical limitation to make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a contrasting point and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from workers’ health to family life, and phrases such as “For instance” and “As a result” help signal examples and consequences. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. “In contrast” introduces a point that largely repeats the earlier argument rather than presenting a distinct contrast, and “This often leads to a null performance” is not clearly connected to the preceding sentence. The family paragraph also contains several ideas in one sequence, making the example harder to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and ensure each linking phrase accurately describes the relationship between ideas; refer to people and their claims consistently.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “mental … health,” “quality time,” “relationships” and “productivity.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “sales officer” and “household tasks.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “phyical,” “oppurtunity” and “effenciently” are misspelled, while “tensed,” “feel them exhaust” and “null performance” are unnatural or unclear. Repetition of “long duration,” “long weekend” and “performance” also limits flexibility. Build a reliable range of collocations for work, wellbeing and family life, and check spelling carefully. More natural phrasing would make your ideas easier to understand without changing their meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “when,” “which” and “although,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “many people spend … his time” has a pronoun-agreement problem, “A long weekend make them feel” needs a singular verb, and “there should a proper time” is missing a verb. The sentence beginning “In contrast, people who spend…” is also an incomplete or poorly formed construction. These issues sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct agreement, and complete clause structure, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
