Student answer (Band 5.5)

I agree with the statement that working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. It gives a lot of benfits to thoses companies and orginations which has short period of work and do not need labour every day to do tasks. I have two reasons to support my side first one its is cost effective and second it redcuse the energy and time of labour and company as well.

first reason is that some companies pay to labours on daily basis even they do not complete any task in a whole day due to shortage of goods or anyother reasons, because of this sometimes comapny face several losses. For instance, i am runing my own busineess and i singed a contract with labours that i will pay them on daily basis but some days they do not done any task but i have to pay them because of contract between us So, i face losses every month. Therefore, if i reduce their number of working week so i can hendle this situation well.

Second reason is that shorter the working week helps to save energy and time of both the side worker and company. Most of the time due to work load workers lost their energy and face health issues which is not good for the workers and companies because companies do not complete task on time. for instance, when loabour do overtime company have to support them with giveing asstatans which waste their time.

in conclusion, companies start support labour and respect their works and shorter the working week and give them longer weekend to cover up their energy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you agree with a shorter working week, and you give two reasons—lower costs and saving workers’ energy and time. The personal example about paying workers on days when there is no work helps make the cost argument relevant. However, the response only partly develops the task: it focuses mainly on employers’ costs and does not explain in much detail how a longer weekend benefits workers or why this arrangement is broadly preferable. The second reason is also unclear in places, particularly the link between overtime support and saving time. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a specific example, and connect the conclusion more directly to your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “first reason” and “Second reason,” and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument reasonably easy to follow. You also use examples to support the body paragraphs. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening sentence of the first body paragraph is difficult to follow, and “Therefore” does not fully clarify how reducing the working week would solve the payment problem. The second paragraph moves from workers’ health to companies missing deadlines and then to overtime support without clearly linking these points. Use topic sentences that state one main idea, then explain its cause and effect before adding an example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “cost effective,” “shortage,” “losses,” “work load,” and “health issues.” These choices help communicate the general argument. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the response harder to understand, such as “benfits,” “orginations,” “redcuse,” and “asstatans.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “reduce their number of working week” and “cover up their energy.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, you could write “reduce the number of working days” and “recover their energy.” More precise vocabulary would help express the relationship between shorter hours, productivity, and employee wellbeing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because” and “which,” and the reader can generally identify your main points. However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation are frequent enough to cause difficulty. For example, “some companies pay to labours … even they do not complete” needs a clearer clause structure and corrected verb form; “companies start support labour” has an incorrect verb pattern; and “the shorter the working week helps” is not a well-formed construction. Several long sentences run together without full stops. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly attached supporting clause, and check subject–verb agreement and verb patterns.
