Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries, people can get one off day per week. But i personally would perfer atleast two off days per week. However, the number of working days should be shorter so that worker can get a longer weekend. I agree with this proposal.

Weekend is important for working people. Humans can take break from their work and can be relaxed. In a off day, workers can do different kinds of activities such as playing indoor as well as outdoor games and sports such as cricket, football, racing and so on. These will reduce their anxiety and enhance their physical strength. Furthermore, workers can enhance their creativity by practising several creative activities such as art, photography etc. Family and friends are essential for human existence as human is a social being. In weekend a person is able to spend quality time with family, friends and loved ones. It will make strong bonding between them. Besides workers travel to stunning places for entertainment. But if workers will get shorter weekend, then they will not be able to fulfil their desired activities. That's why longer weekend is very important for workers.

I am a citizen of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a muslim majority country. Muslims pray Jummer Namaz in Friday. For this reason, people of Bangladesh consider Friday as weekend. But people don't enjoy the day properly. They need one more off day to take rest and refresh themselves. Government has recently declared Saturday as weekend. Currently, there are two days as weekends in Bangladesh and it idea of a longer weekend is beneficial to the workers.

Eventually, I want to say that the longer weekend is more beneficial than the shorter weekend from my persection. Consequently, government should announce a shorter working days and a longer weekend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that workers should have a shorter working week and longer weekend, and you give relevant reasons involving rest, exercise, creativity, and time with family. The Bangladesh example also makes the discussion more personal and supports the idea that an additional day off can be beneficial. This covers the task well, but the reasons are not developed equally. For instance, the list of activities is broad, while the explanation of how a shorter working week would improve workers’ lives or productivity remains limited. The Bangladesh paragraph describes the weekend arrangement but could connect it more explicitly to the proposed change. Developing one or two key arguments with clearer explanation or a specific example would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, the main paragraphs present general benefits and a Bangladesh example, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Besides,” and “For this reason” help guide the reader. However, some connections feel mechanical or unclear. The shift from general benefits to the Bangladesh example is abrupt, and “But if workers will get shorter weekend” does not clearly express the contrast intended. The final paragraph repeats the opening position rather than drawing the main reasons together. Use clearer links between paragraphs and vary references to “workers” and “weekend” to make the progression smoother and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate several relevant ideas, including “anxiety,” “physical strength,” “creativity,” and “quality time.” There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “stunning places” and “social being.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision. Examples include “one off day,” “a off day,” “enhance their creativity,” and “from my persection”; the last also contains a spelling error. “Racing” is an unclear example of an activity in this context, and “longer weekend” is repeated frequently. Aim to learn natural word partnerships and check spelling, while choosing precise terms rather than adding descriptive words that do not fit the meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure and clauses introduced by “so that” and “because.” This gives the response some variety, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “if workers will get shorter weekend” uses an unsuitable future form in the conditional, while “In a off day” and “it idea” show article and determiner errors. “Humans can take break from their work and can be relaxed” also has problems with article use and the passive construction. Review conditional patterns, singular/plural agreement, and articles, then proofread each sentence to catch these recurring errors and improve accuracy.
