Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, this topic become a matter of debate and people have different opinions on it, but im strongly disagree with this opinion becuase of some reasons and also bad effects on the individuals.

At first, if the working week become shorter it will effect the working progress in buisness firms also the employers get paid shorter, For example if a comapny paying for 26 days sallery because of four holidays in a month, they will cut there sallery as the holidays can go up it also leads to the same situation, if the working week should be shorter the sallery also become shorter and employers can face issues in the working becuse of the work overload because they have to complete it in shorter days then the full week, it goes in a bad condition and also become a ruthless situation for everyone.

Furthermore, it will make workers lazy and also loner weekend means more free time in which people use different kind of things, for instanse they use vehicles to go out which become a reason of pollution, and also if the working week become shorter how can comapnys and banks manage to do alot of work in that short period of time, it have alot of side effects for comapny and clients, both will undergo in a tough situation which results in financial lose.

In Conclusion, i preffered to say that shorter working week leads to financial losses and also become hectice for the employes and comapnies, the routine work goes in a tough condition which is not suitable for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you disagree with a shorter working week, and you give relevant reasons concerning pay, workload, business operations and possible pollution. The examples about a company paying workers for fewer days and banks managing their work help connect your argument to the topic. However, the ideas are only partly developed. The claim that shorter weeks would make workers “lazy” is asserted rather than explained, and the pollution point is not clearly linked to why a longer weekend would cause a significant problem. The pay example also assumes that fewer working days automatically mean lower salaries, without considering alternative arrangements. Develop each main reason with clearer explanation and a more specific example to make the response more fully persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “At first,” “Furthermore” and “In Conclusion” help signal these stages. However, connections within the paragraphs are sometimes mechanical, and several ideas are crowded into long sentences, making the progression difficult to follow. For example, the first body paragraph moves from company pay to work overload and then to a “ruthless situation” without clearly separating the points. Some references, such as “it” and “this,” are also unclear. Use shorter, focused sentences and organise each paragraph around one main reason, followed by its explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “working progress,” “work overload,” “financial losses” and “clients,” which helps communicate your concerns about businesses and workers. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. Examples include “working progress” where “business productivity” would be more natural, and “financial lose” instead of “financial loss.” There are also repeated basic terms such as “shorter,” “work” and “situation,” alongside noticeable spelling errors such as “comapny,” “sallery” and “becuse.” Build a more precise vocabulary for employment and business, and check spelling and common word combinations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to express reasons through longer sentences and use clauses with “because,” “if” and “which,” showing some effort to vary sentence structure. However, the range remains limited, and complex sentences are often faulty, so the reader sometimes has to work to understand the relationships between ideas. For example, “this topic become” needs subject–verb agreement, while “if the working week become shorter it will effect” has problems with verb form and tense. The opening “im strongly disagree” also needs a correct verb construction. Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly where several clauses are joined by commas. Practise accurate present-tense forms and build complex sentences one clause at a time, checking agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
