Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, long weekends over shorter working week for workers has become a widely debated issue. While some people argue that longer working week should be better, i strongly believe that less working days will be better so that employees will be able to spend more time with their family also they will feel motivated toward their jobs. This essay will discuss the main reasons for my view points.

The primary reason why i agree with view is that every employees have their personal life and family they must have to give them time in order to be happy. This is mainly because most people feel tired due to their tuff jobs and they were not able to discuss anything with their family due to their busy life schedule, which can lead to stress and anxiety. In other words, people are not able to discuss their problems with anyone due to shortage of time in their life. Therefore, it is evident that workplaces should encourage employees in terms of giving them holidays and extended weekends of that they will feel more connected towards their family.

Another compelling reason is that if corporates provide more off days to employees they will feel freash after a long holiday and will able to concentrate more on work. This can be attributed to the fact that extended weekends ultimately give benifits to both companies and workers there. Furthermore, people will not feel dizzy for feed up by working in corporates and will able to work extraordinary. For intance many peoply dealy alot of plans due to no or less weakend. As a result they end up by regreting of dong job and not able to work efficiently.

In conclusion, although firms can get some benifits of shorter weekends, i firmly believe that it would be better for employees to work effectively if they wil hav extended weekends and thus they will also be able to enjoy their life rather then only working.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support a shorter working week because it could give employees more time with family and help them feel refreshed and concentrate better. These are relevant reasons, and you explain some consequences, such as stress and reduced efficiency. However, the two points are not developed equally: the family-life argument is explained more fully, while the claim that longer weekends benefit companies is asserted rather than supported with a specific example or clear explanation. The opening also briefly introduces the opposing view, but does not explain it. To strengthen the response, develop each reason with a concrete example and clarify how fewer working days could improve both wellbeing and workplace performance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs generally focus on separate reasons. Linking expressions such as “The primary reason,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal the progression. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “This can be attributed to the fact that extended weekends ultimately give benefits to both companies and workers there” does not clearly connect the claim to its explanation, and “As a result” introduces an outcome that is difficult to follow. Some ideas also repeat the point about having too little time. Use clearer cause-and-effect links, avoid repeating the same idea, and ensure each sentence develops the paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “stress and anxiety,” “extended weekends,” “concentrate” and “efficiently.” These choices make your main ideas understandable. However, the range and control are limited by frequent spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural word combinations, such as “tuff jobs,” “feel dizzy for feed up,” “work extraordinary” and “deal[y] a lot of plans.” These errors sometimes make the reader work to infer your meaning. Aim to learn vocabulary in natural phrases and check spelling carefully. More precise expressions for workload, rest and productivity would help you explain your argument clearly without relying on repeated general terms such as “more time” and “benefits.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “which” and “if,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, there are some recurring errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “every employees have” should use a singular subject and matching verb, while “they will able to concentrate” is missing “be.” In “although firms can get some benefits of shorter weekends,” the comparison is unclear and the sentence does not express the intended contrast accurately. Capitalisation of “I” is also inconsistent. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and complete verb phrases, then revise longer sentences to ensure their clauses connect grammatically.
