Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people argue that holidays ought to be longer than weekdays for employees. I strongly disagree with this view because prolong weekends will hamper our economy and make citizen's daily life imbalanced.

If there are longer off-days at work, the productivity of any industry will be disrupted which will affect our economical growth eventually. In this era, there is a popular saying "time is money" which means the more time you work, the more you will gain financial benefits. Therefore, it becomes neccessry to work hard more efficiently to get a job done timely and to cope-up with the fast paced world. For example, in this world of fast-fashion, global brands usually place order for new apparel in every three to four months. If a textile industry workers' work three days a week only, they can't meet the buyer's order on time. As a result, this will cause detrimental impact on the ready made garments industry of Bangladesh which combines 81% of its export earnings.

Moreover, streached holidays generally make people lazy and decrease their efficiency at work. If a person takes rest for four days a week, they can become less serious about their work. So, after a long break from work, he will need some more time to cope up with the workload which ultimately causes to a great waste of productive time at work. For instance, people generally need at least a day to resume their work properly after they come back at office from a long vacation.

In conclusion, longer weekends for workers is not a better approch and I totally oppose this view as it will be detrimental for individuals working capability and overall economic development of a country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you oppose longer weekends, arguing that they could harm productivity and economic development. Both body paragraphs give relevant reasons, and the Bangladesh garment-industry example helps make the first argument concrete. This meets the task well, with ideas extended and supported. However, the claim that “the more time you work, the more you will gain financial benefits” is broad and does not fully consider whether shorter hours might improve productivity. The second paragraph’s point about workers becoming less serious is also asserted more than demonstrated; the example about needing a day to resume work could be explained more precisely. Develop these claims with clearer reasoning and acknowledge a possible counterargument to make the support more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, each body paragraph develops a separate reason, and the conclusion restates your position. The progression from economic effects to individual efficiency is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and several sentences rely on repeated cause-and-effect phrasing such as “which will affect” and “As a result.” The reference in “they can become less serious” also shifts from “a person” to “they,” then to “he,” making the subject less consistent. Use a consistent reference and connect examples more explicitly to the claim they support for smoother cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including terms such as “productivity,” “economic growth,” “detrimental impact,” and “export earnings.” These choices help communicate your argument and the industry example. There are also attempts at less common or formal expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural: “prolong weekends,” “economical growth,” “streached holidays,” and “individuals working capability.” Spelling errors such as “neccessry” and “approch” also reduce accuracy. Some phrases, including “cope-up with” and “ready made garments,” need more natural forms. Focus on accurate collocations and word forms, rather than choosing a more complex expression when a simpler, precise one is available.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures (“If there are longer off-days…”) and relative clauses (“which will affect our economical growth”). Meaning is generally clear, and the response includes several well-formed sentences. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “a textile industry workers’ work” has an incorrect subject structure, while “longer weekends for workers is” does not agree in number. In “after they come back at office,” the article and preposition pattern are inaccurate; “causes to a great waste” is also not a correct grammatical construction. Review subject–verb agreement and article/preposition patterns, and proofread complex sentences to ensure each clause is complete and correctly connected.
