Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the contemporary era, this is still one of the most debated topic by which people argue that working days should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. Although this is more beneficial for the workers to get more time to perform other activities, I strongly diagree with thie view.

Firstly, if working days are less it creates utter chaos for the organizations to meet the deadlines. By running out of staff they are not able to fulfil the demands on time and companies have to bear huge finanical losses and this thing destroys the reputation of organizations. To illustrate further, no one willing to work with such kind of firm who are not able to complete the work on time. While companies faces such losses their employees devotes time on different activities rather than showing their loyality and dedication towards employers.

Secondly, success requires lot of hard-work and shear-dedication. Spending worthy time on vaccations, parties and other thing keeps us away from our goals which is not good for overselves but companies and countries have to pay for it In China, for example, young people tends to work more hours even on weekend, rather than enjoying just because of this hard-working quality China has become a global economy and leading the world to fulfil their demands on time. Moreover, working three or four days a weeks not makes a person competent because firms always want to hire such proactive person who always priortize work over anythig.

To conclude, to establish the career a person should work in younger ages which is only a beneficial thing to be successful in life rather than devote quality and worthy time on vacation and parties.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree with a shorter working week, and both body paragraphs give reasons related to business performance and career success. The examples about meeting deadlines and China are relevant, so the response addresses the task. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that fewer working days cause companies to run out of staff and suffer financial losses needs a clearer link to how a shorter week would affect staffing or productivity. The China example also generalises about national success without showing how longer hours prove that workers should have shorter weekends. Develop these ideas with more specific reasoning and acknowledge a possible benefit of longer weekends before explaining why you disagree.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two reason-based paragraphs, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the main stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. In the first body paragraph, the move from companies’ losses to employees’ loyalty is abrupt, and the relationship between these claims needs to be made explicit. The second paragraph combines personal goals, vacations, China’s economy, and employers’ hiring preferences, so several ideas compete rather than build one argument. Some linking is also mechanical. Group related points more tightly, use clear references to connect cause and result, and ensure each paragraph develops one central reason.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “deadlines,” “financial losses,” “reputation,” “dedication,” and “global economy,” which helps communicate your argument. There is also some variety beyond basic everyday language. However, the range is limited by repeated general terms such as “work,” “thing,” and “successful,” while several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “diagree,” “finanical,” “shear-dedication,” and “overselves.” Some combinations are unnatural, such as “spending worthy time on vacations” and “fulfil their demands on time.” Choose more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, “valuable time off” and “meet demand on time” would express these ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer, complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if working days are less” and a relative clause in “such proactive person who…”. This shows an effort to vary sentence forms. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “companies faces,” “employees devotes,” “young people tends,” and “working three or four days a weeks not makes.” The opening sentence also has an unclear grammatical construction. Practise subject–verb agreement and sentence patterns such as “working fewer days does not make a person…”; then proofread for missing articles, plural forms, and sentence boundaries.
