Student answer (Band 6.0)
Working days should be less and employees should have a long weekend.
Back in the days there was used to be only one holiday which changed during the 20th centuary. Some of the reasons include religious reasons and also when industrial revolution occured, employees used to get drunk during their sunday holiday and they did not use to perform well the next day so it made sense to change from one day weekend to two days.
In my opinion weekend days should even be longer than it currently is. There are alot of studies that suggests that a three day weekend can be more helpful for workers mental and physical well being. I have heard that Finland which is currently the happiest country in the world already suggesting for three day holidays for workers. I have also read a thread on reddit where a private company in America tested a three day weekend. The idea was suggested by the HR team and all the employees agreed to it. The HR team suggested to employees to do the whole week of work in 4 days so they can enjoy the three day holidays. All the employees were able to meet their goals and they were granted three days of weekend and the feedback suggested that longer weekend can be better for employees as they get more time for family or for themselves. However it was unfortunate that they did not continue the practice and burdened the emplyees with more work when they found out they can do the weeks worth of work in four days.
In conclusion, various studies and from what i have read about the experience of employees who had longer weekend, it is more far better to have long weekend than shorter one as it can be better for workers well being.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you support a longer weekend, and you give relevant reasons about workers’ mental and physical well-being, family time, and a company trial. The example of employees completing their goals in four days helps support your view. The historical opening about the move from a one-day to a two-day weekend is relevant background, but it takes space without clearly advancing your argument. The claim about Finland is also not explained or connected in detail to the benefits. To strengthen the response further, develop the main reasons more evenly and explain how the evidence supports a shorter working week, rather than relying on broad claims such as “various studies.” Your position is established, but some supporting ideas remain less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting your reasons and example, and a conclusion that restates your position. The company trial gives the main body a clear focus, and linking expressions such as “However” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, though, the progression is less controlled: the historical explanation, Finland, and the Reddit example are placed together without clear transitions showing how each builds the case. Some references are also vague, as in “the idea” and “the practice,” which makes the reader work out exactly what they refer to. Use clearer topic sentences and organise each paragraph around one main reason, with evidence and explanation following it.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “employees,” “industrial revolution,” “mental and physical well being,” “HR team,” and “meet their goals.” These choices allow you to communicate your main points, and you attempt some topic-specific language. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “weekend,” “work,” and “better,” while several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, including “long weekend,” “three day holidays,” and “more far better.” Spelling errors such as “centuary” and “emplyees” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms—for example, distinguish between a “shorter working week” and an “extended weekend.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your vocabulary more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “so they can enjoy the three day holidays” and a contrast introduced by “However.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “there was used to be” combines incompatible verb forms, and “studies that suggests” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “I have heard that Finland…” is incomplete, while “the feedback suggested that longer weekend can be better” needs an article and more consistent tense. There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary issues in the long company example. Practise forming complete clauses, checking agreement and articles, and breaking long sentences into clearer units.
