Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, in the modern era, it is often argued that the working week should be reduced in length, allowing the workers to enjoy a long weekend. I completely agree with point of view because it is more beneficial and will provide full relaxation, better physical and mental health and better productivity.

One of the major advantages of longer weekends is that people will get an opportunity to spend quality time with their friends and family members because nowdays individuals are much busy in their working schedule and do not get much time to spend with their loved ones. For example, employees can use their extra day off to spend time with their familes like having meals outside, visiting their relatives or making short trips together. Secondly, they get more time to take rest as companies require a lot of work from employees and sometimes they do work even on weekends which makes them physical as well as mentally ill. So, longer weekends will allow them to keep fit both mentally and physically.

Moreover, this trend provides them better productivity because workers return back to their work with a fresh and active mind. They get enough time to rest and recover from work related stress. For instance, an employee who gets much time on weekends to rest and enjoying with family members may return fresh and more focused on his work. However, after having sufficient, workers can concentrate better and and complete their more quickly and properly.

To sum up, I strongly agree because shorter weekdays with a lengthy weekends are more advantageous as they provide relaxation, opportunity to spend quality time with families, help to concentrate properly on work and also reduce stress.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I completely agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address relevant benefits of a shorter working week, including family time, rest, health and productivity, and support these with examples such as taking trips or returning to work more focused. This gives the response a clear, relevant argument. Some points, however, are asserted rather than fully explained: the claim that weekend work can make employees “physically as well as mentally ill” would benefit from a more precise explanation, and the productivity point repeats the idea of rest without showing how shorter hours might improve work outcomes. Develop these links with specific reasoning or evidence to make the support more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from family and health benefits to productivity is logical, and signposts such as “One of the major advantages,” “Moreover” and “To sum up” help readers follow the argument. Some connections are less smooth, particularly “However, after having sufficient,” which does not clearly connect to the preceding point and leaves the reader unsure what is sufficient. The second body paragraph also repeats the ideas of rest and returning fresh. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and avoid repeating the same benefit, to make the progression more flexible and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss work and wellbeing, including “quality time,” “physical and mental health,” “work-related stress” and “concentrate.” These choices make your main ideas clear, and you attempt some topic-specific phrasing. However, several word-choice, collocation and spelling issues limit precision: “nowdays,” “familes,” “much busy,” “return back” and “having sufficient” are not natural or accurate in context. “Long weekend” and “longer weekends” are also repeated frequently. Aim for more natural combinations such as “spend time with loved ones,” “recover from stress” and “improve productivity,” and proofread spelling. Greater variety and more accurate collocations would make the vocabulary more flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including reason clauses with “because,” a relative clause in “an employee who gets…,” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “workers return back to their work” has an unnecessary repeated verb, while “complete their more quickly” is missing the object of “complete.” The phrase “after having sufficient” is also incomplete, and “and and” shows a proofreading slip. There are issues with agreement and sentence construction in places, such as “a lengthy weekends.” Review each sentence for a complete, clearly formed clause, and check articles, plurals and repeated words while editing.
