Student answer (Band 5.5)

it is often arguad that the working week is too long and it should be shorter in order the worker can have a longer weekend, I partly agree with this statement for several reasons.

to being with, the working week regime is global and it doesnt change from a countrie to another, in all parts of the world there are individuals who are okay with the idea of working 5 days a week, this exact timing allow them to make a suitable living and live with dignity, and they still have good relationships and no issues of organizing time for their hobies and families and other works.

on the other hand there is a another point to consider, if we really get into society we will find people who are working long day or night shifts in order to provide a linvig for themselves and for their families, this can lead to a shallow relations between families and lovers because they were deprived for example to site with thier families in a park or gather in a dinner to talk and get further into thier relationships.

In conclusion, I partly agree with this statement because it is a double adged sword, and it can be considered as an individual problem not a society problem since there are people who find this timing suitable and doesnt complain, and the working week was aplicated by people who are considered as the best in their fields by the supervision of the world leaders and governments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear, qualified position—“I partly agree”—and present two relevant perspectives: some workers manage a five-day week, while long shifts can reduce time for family relationships. This addresses the question, but the reasons are only partly developed. For example, you say a five-day schedule allows people to “make a suitable living” and organise hobbies, without explaining why a shorter week would not offer the same benefits. The second point is more specific, but it focuses on long shifts rather than directly showing how a shorter working week would help. Your conclusion repeats your position, though the claim that the schedule was applied by people considered “the best in their fields” is unclear and unsupported. Develop each reason and connect it more directly to the proposed change.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “to begin with,” “on the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad direction of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to track because several ideas are joined into long sentences, and the relationship between them is not always explicit. For instance, the first body paragraph moves from a global working-week regime to income, dignity, relationships, hobbies, and other work without clearly prioritising the main point. Some references, such as “this timing,” are also not fully precise. Organise each paragraph around one central claim and use clearer links between the claim, explanation, and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “working week,” “long day or night shifts,” “provide a living,” and “relationships.” These choices make the general subject understandable, and phrases such as “double-edged sword” show an attempt to use idiomatic language. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “arguad,” “countrie,” “hobies,” and “linvig.” Some expressions are also unnatural or unclear: “get into society,” “shallow relations,” and “further into their relationships” do not convey your intended ideas precisely. Aim for accurate collocations and more specific terms, such as describing how long hours “strain family relationships” or “reduce time for family life.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if we really get into society we will find…” and a reason clause beginning “because.” However, complex sentences are often difficult to control, and errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and verb forms occur frequently enough to sometimes slow understanding. For example, “this exact timing allow them” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “there is a another point” has an article error. The opening sentence joins several clauses without clear punctuation, and the final sentence is similarly overloaded. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with accurate punctuation and agreement. This will make your argument easier to follow while preserving structural variety.
