Student answer (Band 6.0)

The labour day should be less while the labours should have more longer weekends. While it is true that work is important, in my opinion, the work and life should be balanced according to the working sector. This depends largely on the industry.

Shorter working days is convinent. Having a short working days will improve the mental health of the employee and give them additional time to be productive. For example, a company providing a four days work a week will have more satisfied employee then a company providing only one days off. As a result, less wroking period will make them feel less burnout and provide time to rest both mentally and physically. This will help the employee to be more productive in their field of their work. Therefore, less working days is beneficial.

On the other hand, having a longer weekend is not always beneficial. Certain essential services (healthcare, manufacturing company, emergency services) requires more working hour coverage. For example, an emergency service where every seconds is important, will be empacted if the working hour of a labour is deducted. As a result, shorter weeks would require more staffs to be hired, increasing labour cost. In conclusion,it is not always very convinent to have longer weekends and short working days.

To sum up, flexibility should depend on the specific job sectiors rather tham making it a mandatory for all the employment to have short days longer weekends. It shouold have a perfect work and life balance so that the employees will be satisfied with the time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you support a better work–life balance but do not think shorter weeks suit every sector. You address both the benefits and drawbacks, using examples such as employee wellbeing and emergency services, so the response is relevant and covers the main question. The explanation that rest can improve productivity is useful, but the comparison between a four-day week and “only one days off” is unclear, and the effects on essential services are asserted more than explained. The conclusion restates your qualified view, though “perfect work and life balance” is not developed into a specific recommendation. More precise examples and fuller explanation of how shorter weeks could be organised would strengthen the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting shorter working periods, a contrasting paragraph about essential services, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the other hand,” “As a result,” and “To sum up” helps readers follow the main direction. However, some links feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “As a result” and “Therefore,” and the relationship between ideas is occasionally unclear. For example, the four-day-week comparison does not clearly explain the alternative schedule, while the final paragraph introduces flexibility without showing how it follows from the examples. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each example directly to the claim it supports; clearer referencing would also improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “mental health,” “essential services,” “labour cost,” and “work and life balance,” which allows you to discuss the issue. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “productive” and “coverage.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision: “labour day” does not express the working week, “more longer” is not idiomatic, and “conv inent,” “wroking,” and “empacted” contain spelling errors. Phrases such as “short working days” and “perfect work and life balance” are also imprecise in context. Build a bank of natural expressions for schedules and employment, and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if the working hour of a labour is deducted” and a concessive opening with “While it is true that…”. Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “Shorter working days is” should use a plural verb, while “a company … will have more satisfied employee” needs plural agreement and a comparative form. In “Certain essential services … requires,” the subject and verb do not agree. Punctuation is also inconsistent, as in “In conclusion,it”. Review subject–verb agreement, countable nouns, and article use, then check each sentence for a complete and correctly punctuated structure.
