Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued that employees should be granted an extended weekend alongside a shortened workweek. I completely agree with this perspective because additional time off allows workers to mentally recharge and build more meaningful relationships with their families.
A primary advantage of providing longer weekends to employees is that it allows them to mentally recharge. Most individuals work continuous long hours throughout the week without sufficient rest or breaks. Over time, this can lead to mental fatigue and exhaustion, which severely impacts their quality of life and professional capability. For instance, a teacher who works through a demanding school week engages in mentally draining tasks on a daily basis; without adequate time to rejuvenate, they are highly likely to burn out. Therefore, an extended weekend can be highly effective in restoring their cognitive energy and renewing their readiness for the workplace.
Another benefit of granting longer weekends to workers is that it can help them spending more time with their families. Often, a lot of workers engage in many hours of tedious tasks through the whole week which can cause them to be more tired and fatigued. Due to this, some workers might reach home late and are too exhausted to be able to sit and spend time with their house members. A lot of doctors who work overnight long shifts are away from their families and when they return, they lack energy to interact properly with their siblings or spouse. If this lasts, it leads to a barrier between emotional understanding of people.
In conclusion I believe longer weekends should be granted because it helps them with relaxation and more time with family.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely agree”—and the conclusion returns to the two main reasons: relaxation and family time. Both points are relevant, and the teacher and doctor examples help illustrate them. The discussion of mental fatigue is reasonably extended, but the family argument is less fully explained: the claim that limited time creates “a barrier between emotional understanding” is unclear and would benefit from a more specific explanation of its effects. The response addresses the question, but it focuses mainly on the benefits of longer weekends and says little about how a shorter working week would work or why it is preferable. Develop that part of the proposal and make the examples more precise to strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from workers’ mental recovery to family relationships is easy to follow, and signposts such as “A primary advantage” and “Another benefit” make the organisation explicit. Within the second body paragraph, however, several sentences repeat the ideas of long hours, tiredness and limited family interaction, so the argument does not advance as efficiently as it could. The final sentence about “a barrier” also does not clearly connect the preceding example to its consequence. Reduce repetition and use a more explicit link between the example and the effect to make cohesion more flexible and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “mentally recharge,” “mental fatigue,” “burn out,” “cognitive energy” and “rejuvenate.” These choices help explain the first argument, and meaning is generally clear. There are also some imprecise or repetitive expressions, particularly in the family paragraph: “a lot of workers,” “many hours of tedious tasks,” “house members” and “a barrier between emotional understanding” are not natural or precise in context. “Tired” and “fatigued” also repeat the same idea. Aim for more accurate collocations and vary repeated wording; for example, describe workers as having limited time or energy to connect with family, rather than relying on broad phrases such as “a lot of workers.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because additional time off allows workers to mentally recharge” and the conditional structure “If this lasts, it leads…”. Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, including “it can help them spending more time,” where the verb pattern should be “help them spend,” and “In conclusion I believe,” which needs a comma after the introductory phrase. The final sentence also shifts from plural “weekends” to singular “it,” making the reference less consistent. These errors do not generally impede understanding, but checking verb patterns, punctuation and pronoun reference would improve accuracy while preserving your range of sentence structures.
