Student answer (Band 6.0)

Weekend is a very fascinating day of a week. The working people are waiting for weekend through the week to get time for themselves and their friends and families. There is a big issue on shortening the working week and longering the weekend.

Though weekend is very important but in my sense we need a balance between working week and weekend. Neither short working week and long weekened nor long working week and short weekend can reduce the actual pain of working people. Rather than long weekend will make us more procastinate to start our resumed work. When you are working 4 days and have 3 days of weekend, you won't be able to continue you left jobs with the same rythm. This causes a big distraction and laziness and works as a barrier to start your work. It also drains your energy.

For example, when we were emersed in Covid-19 situation and locked down in our houses, we got a very long weekend. Those long weekend weakened our habit of doing work from 9 to 5. It broke the productve habit and so after the pandemic we needed a long time to get back into our normal life. Because our human body always wants comfortable environment and leisure situation. When it gets vacation, it don't want to return back to its tough working situation. The only reason behind it is vacation gives us happiness and calmness but doing any type of work makes us more stressful. Our body don't want to face any stress, it just needs a calm and peaceful environment.

I have experienced such thing after coming back from any long vacation like Eid festivals. When I go to office after vacation, I can't concentrate my work or can't shift my vacation mode into productive working mode in just a day. I need almost seven days to get my previous rythm of doing tasks. But I also agree we all need a good length of weekend to restore ourselves and charge our body for another tiring week. Otherwise, we won't be much productive and our brain will be locked. New ideas can be generated after a fresh sleeping.

So need a balanced week like a balanced diet. How balanced diet helps our body to incorporate all essential food ingredients in a one meal, a balanced weekend where working week and weekend wii be balanced, then workers can provide their best outputs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you favour a balance rather than either a very short working week or an excessively long one. You support this with relevant reasoning about returning to work after extended breaks, including the lockdown and your experience after Eid holidays, and you acknowledge that weekends help workers recover. This addresses the question and gives the response a solid basis. However, the argument focuses mainly on the disadvantages of longer breaks; it does not fully explain what a balanced working-week arrangement would look like or why shortening the week should be rejected in practical terms. The lockdown example is relevant but is treated as equivalent to a regular three-day weekend, which needs qualification. More precise development of these points would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining your concerns about longer weekends, examples, and a concluding recommendation. The ideas generally progress from your position to supporting experiences, and phrases such as “For example” and “I have experienced” help signal evidence. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. The opening of the second paragraph, “Though weekend is very important but,” combines contrasting forms awkwardly, while “Neither short working week and long weekened nor…” makes the comparison difficult to follow. The final paragraph introduces the balanced-diet analogy but does not connect it smoothly to a specific proposal. Use clearer topic sentences and more precise references so readers can follow how each example supports your central claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to work and wellbeing, including “distraction,” “productive,” “restore,” “stressful,” and “incorporate.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and the response includes some topic-specific phrasing. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “longering,” “procastinate,” “rythm,” “emersed,” and “our brain will be locked.” Repetition of “long weekend,” “work,” and “body” also limits flexibility. Aim to use familiar vocabulary accurately before reaching for less certain expressions, and choose natural collocations such as “return to work” or “regain a routine.” This would make your ideas clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “When you are working 4 days and have 3 days of weekend…” and a contrast introduced by “Though.” This shows an attempt to vary sentence structure. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “it don't want to return” should use a singular verb, and “I can't concentrate my work” needs a different grammatical pattern, such as “concentrate on my work.” The opening “Though weekend is very important but…” also needs restructuring, and “Neither… nor…” is not formed correctly. Review subject–verb agreement and practise building contrast and comparison sentences; these changes would improve accuracy while preserving your range.
