Student answer (Band 5.5)

Over the past few years, it has been a serious matter fo the workers related to their working weeks and weekends. Some people believe that every worker has right to claim for more longer weekend, but I firmly believe that every worker should serve according to the requirenment of their workplace.

On the one hand, most of workers can enjoy with their families in weekends.

Short working week often help workers to reduce their stress and anxiety whereas longer weekends in the same hand create an opportunity to invest their leisure time with their family members. For examples, the government officials of Nepal under the current constitution get two days weekend that helps them to enjoy their weekend with their family. Longer weekends are beneficial for the workers but it should be able to provide their sufficient labour to their related orginazition.

On the other hand, this can create a sense of undiscipline. Most of the people often demand leave without any valid reason to get rid from their workplace. For instance, workers in private companies often try to demand leave without any valid reason. If people get shorter working weeks then their focus will be minimised since they get enough time in longer weekends to do irrelevent activities.

To sum up, every worker should be able to provide required labour inorder to achieve their desired salary. Longer weekends shouldn't be encouraged

since it can trigger many people to focus more in irrelevent activities rather than official work.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear overall view that longer weekends should not be encouraged, and you include relevant points about family time, stress and workplace responsibilities. However, the position is not fully consistent: the introduction says workers should serve according to workplace requirements, while the first body paragraph acknowledges benefits without clearly explaining how these support your final disagreement. The argument that longer weekends cause indiscipline and reduce focus is asserted rather than convincingly supported; the private-company example largely repeats the claim. The response also falls two words short of the required 250-word minimum. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or a specific example, and state your position consistently from the introduction onward.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand” and “To sum up” help readers follow the broad organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from family benefits to the need to provide sufficient labour without explaining the connection, and the conclusion introduces salary, which has not been developed earlier. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “this” in “this can create a sense of undiscipline” are not precise. Build each paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it before moving to the next point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “stress and anxiety,” “leisure time,” “workplace” and “valid reason,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but inaccurate word choice, collocation and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning awkward. For example, “enjoy with their families,” “more longer weekend,” “sense of undiscipline” and “irrelevent activities” are not natural or correctly formed. “Related orginazition” is also unclear. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than forcing formal-sounding phrases, and check spelling carefully. A more precise range of expressions for productivity, work-life balance and leave policies would help you explain your argument more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and complex structures, including the contrast in “Short working week often help workers to reduce their stress and anxiety whereas longer weekends…” This shows some range, but control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences. Errors include missing or incorrect articles and plurals (“most of workers,” “a two days weekend”), subject–verb agreement (“Short working week…help”), and sentence construction (“it should be able to provide their sufficient labour”). The opening sentence also contains an incomplete or unclear grammatical pattern. These errors recur and can make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then use subordinate clauses and contrast structures with careful checking of agreement and articles.
