Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a debate that there should be shorter working weeks and the weekly holidays remain longer while other people believe the opposite. I believe both have their benefits which I will explore in this essay and based on that I propose my opinion.

On the one hand, if the working days are more, may be six or seven days a week then people will be exausted and they have less time to relax. It also affect their mental health along with the productivity. For example, mostly in developing countries, people tend to work sometimes all days a week to fulfill their financial needs, but a research says for a normal human being to remain healthy, he must takes some rest. Otherwise, those people have to face mental issues such as exaustion, depression and anxiety. Similarily, this also alter the overall productivity of those tasks which require your creativity.

On the other hand, many developed countries reduced the working days, where they have more leisure which they like to spend it with they family and vacations. It also believed that the people living in those places are more happy. They are more creative. However, it is also true that the tasks which can be completed within days, will take sometimes weeks or even months. For example, my friend who is living in France told me even a small task like open a bank account took more then a month because employees don't respond on time due to longer weekends.

In conclusion, I believe longer working weeks will be bad for people's mental health and productivity. While, longer weekends resulted into less work done by taking more time to complete a task. I think there should a balanced approach in which people can relax and become healthly, along with completing the tasks timely.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the question by discussing both the benefits of shorter working weeks and a possible drawback, then conclude that a balanced approach is preferable. Your position is understandable, but it is not fully consistent with the prompt’s agree-or-disagree format: the introduction says you will explore both sides, while the conclusion proposes balance without clearly stating how far you agree that the working week should be shorter. The points about rest, mental health and creativity are relevant, but the claim about a friend’s bank-account application is a narrow example and does not establish that longer weekends generally delay work. Develop the reasoning with a more representative example and explain more directly how shorter hours affect workers and productivity.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and each body paragraph has a central focus. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and also shows some stronger control through paragraphing and a logical sequence. However, some links are mechanical, and references are occasionally unclear—for example, “those places” and “those tasks” require the reader to infer their exact meaning. The conclusion’s “While” sentence is also awkwardly connected to the preceding sentence. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “productivity,” “mental health,” “creativity,” “depression” and “anxiety.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “financial needs” and “balanced approach.” However, the range is limited in places, and several word-choice or collocation errors make the writing less natural: “weekly holidays,” “spend it with they family,” and “longer weekends resulted into less work done.” Spelling errors such as “exausted,” “exaustion” and “Similarily” are noticeable. These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision. Build a bank of topic-specific collocations and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional phrasing (“if the working days are more”) and a relative clause (“tasks which can be completed within days”). The overall meaning is generally clear, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction remain. For example, “It also affect their mental health” needs subject–verb agreement, while “he must takes some rest” combines the modal “must” with an incorrect verb form. “It also believed” is missing an auxiliary, and “there should a balanced approach” needs a verb. Punctuation also creates an awkward fragment in “While, longer weekends…”. Review modal patterns, auxiliary verbs and agreement, then check each sentence for a complete grammatical structure.
