Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, there is a debate about decrease in the number of working days throughout the week. Some people argue that there should be a precise number of days. While others believe that the facility of long weekends should be provided to the workers. I disagree with the latter sentiment because if there is a huge gap between the working days, people get reckless. It aslo effects the economic growth of one's country.

To begin with, many people think that the burden of work on employees should be less. This can be done by decreasing the number of working days because workers aren't machines, they need proper relaxation to fresh their mind. For example, in many countries, authorities allot limited hours to their workers. In this way, the workers do not get bore. They enjoy their job with different amenities set by the government.

Futhermore, there should be long weekends for the employees to unwind themselves. This is because people want to spend time with their love one's. However, if there is an extention in the weekends, the economic growth of country face deterimental effects. The reason behind this is that workers are the only individuals who are responsible for the development of the country. Longers weekends bring some adverse habits with the people especially with workers. For instance, in pakistan, the workers enjoy their long weekends with their families. After weekends when they come back to their work, they become sluggish and can not do their daily work with proper sincerity.

In conclusion, there should be proper amenities for the workers in their certain fields. If the number of holidays are increased, the country could face bad economic situations. Therefore, the government ought to strike a balance between working days and off days.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is identifiable: you oppose longer weekends because you believe they could reduce productivity and harm economic growth. You also acknowledge the opposing view that workers need rest and time with family, so the response engages with both sides of the issue. However, the argument is only partly developed. For example, the claim that workers become “reckless” after a gap between working days is not explained, and the Pakistan example asserts that workers become sluggish without showing why this would apply more broadly. The discussion also shifts between reducing working days and extending weekends without clearly distinguishing these proposals. Develop fewer claims with clearer reasoning and relevant evidence, and state your position consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on related points, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad direction. However, progression within and between paragraphs is not always clear. The second body paragraph begins by supporting long weekends, then turns to their economic disadvantages, leaving your stance and the relationship between these ideas somewhat confusing. Some links, including “This is because” and “The reason behind this is that,” are repetitive or do not make the reasoning clearer. Use topic sentences that match your position, and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “economic growth,” “burden of work,” “unwind” and “adverse habits,” which allows you to discuss employment and leisure. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “strike a balance.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the intended meaning less clear. For instance, “fresh their mind” would be more naturally expressed as “refresh their minds,” while “the economic growth of country face detrimental effects” needs more accurate phrasing. Spelling errors such as “aslo,” “Futhermore,” “extention” and “Longers” are noticeable. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word partnerships in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if there is an extension in the weekends” and clauses introduced by “because” and “when.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms recur. For example, “the economic growth of country face” has problems with the article and subject–verb agreement, while “the number of holidays are increased” uses a plural verb with a singular subject. The opening also contains sentence fragments beginning “While others believe…”. Review agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and check that each dependent clause is attached to a complete sentence.
