Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an ongoing discussion regarding working week, people recognized that working week must be limited and workers should have longer weekend. I completely disagree with this viewpoint because it can create detrimental impact on business and professional community.

On the one hand, according to the rapid increased in the human population markets changing their work and production strategy, therefore the companies owners installed costly machines to produce more goods. For example, in many factories workers spend double time to fulfill their customers demand, so long brake in work shipments can unbalanced production process, Additionally, the slow progress of work will effect the earnings as well, because they are already invested their assets to earn more money, Such as, they will pay to their workers for salaries , electrcity bills, government taxes, place rents, and will also maintain the machines, as a result of shorter term term work weeks, this would bankrupt busniess community.

On the other hand, limited work time can effect middle calss and prfofessional, because a number of workers across the world, working on dailywages. For example, if they spend more time in their homes and working for short time they must be unable to complete their daily needs, furthermore, in many countries like pakistan labour earn less than their daily required money, in this case they will, go to doctor, will pay their house rents, school fees of their children, food expanses and other types of need the must be required to rely on their daily income which can exacerbate their lives.

In conclusion, shorter week would have a great financial impact on richest and middle class both because, investers will be unable to complete their targeted production and workers will face unemplyment as result of shorter work week.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely disagree with a shorter working week, and the conclusion restates this view. You give two relevant reasons—possible disruption to business production and reduced earnings for workers paid by the day—and support them with examples such as factory output and household expenses. This addresses the task, but the development is uneven. The business argument includes several costs, yet the link between a longer weekend and bankruptcy is asserted rather than explained. The point about workers’ income is relevant, though it would be stronger with a clearer account of how reduced hours would affect pay and whether employers could adjust schedules. Develop each cause-and-effect chain more fully and acknowledge a possible benefit of shorter weeks before explaining why you disagree.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and several sentences contain too many linked points. In the first body paragraph, “Additionally” and “as a result” connect a long sequence of claims, making the relationship between investment, reduced production, and bankruptcy difficult to track. The second paragraph also moves quickly from daily wages to medical costs, rent, and school fees. Use shorter sentences, group related examples, and make references such as “this” or “they” clearly identify the idea or people being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “production strategy,” “daily wages,” “targeted production,” and “financial impact.” These choices show an effort to discuss business and workers’ circumstances rather than relying only on basic terms. However, the range is limited by repeated general wording and noticeable errors in spelling, word form, and collocation. Phrases such as “rapid increased,” “long brake in work,” “daily required money,” and “food expanses” are unclear or unnatural, while “effect” is used where a different word form is needed. These errors sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Build accuracy by learning common topic collocations and checking spelling and word forms; for example, use “production schedules” and “household expenses.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer, complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “if,” and “as a result.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main position remains understandable. However, complex sentences are often not controlled successfully, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “markets changing their work and production strategy” lacks a correctly formed main verb, while “they are already invested their assets” combines incompatible verb forms. The sentence beginning “For example, in many factories” also runs several ideas together with faulty punctuation. Practise building one clear main clause with subordinate clauses, and check subject–verb agreement, tense, and punctuation before adding further details.
