Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many companies employees think that there should be reduction in working hours and employees should have a longer weekend. I completely disagree, with the statement because long weekend holidays and shorter working week is not beneficial for the companies. There are so many consequences for this company may suffer from lack of money and also there is no improvement in the technology.
Firstly, employees should work atleast 5-6 days in a week and should have weekend holiday only for saturday and sunday. If employees are demanding longer weekend then they should get fired because it is not a positive outcome for the company. The comapny has to suffer from different problems such as, lack of employement, delaying in reports and data and after sometimes if employees wanted to follow the same behaviour and attitude towards more holidays and less work then the company suffer ultimate crisis throughout the years. In the end, the company owners will decide to probably shut down the company.
Secondly, some employees demanding holidays and reduce working hours to be with there families and also to stay at home and relax sometimes to avoid major health issues such as, blood pressure, diabetes and cardiac arrest due to heavy work load and also to maintain their routine. Moreover, many employees asking long holidays to go countryside just to relax and sometimes to visit their parents if they are abroad.Even though many people say it is a good for employees to ask for more holidays but unfortunately it is not beneficial for the company's growth.
In conclusion, decreasing working hours will significantly worst impact on the company and it is crucial to work 6 days in a week. rather than

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you disagree with a shorter working week, and you give reasons related to company performance. The discussion also acknowledges why employees may want more time for family, rest, and health, which helps address the issue. However, the central case is only partly developed. For example, the claim that longer weekends would cause a company to “suffer from lack of money” or eventually close is asserted without explaining how reduced hours would lead to those outcomes. The point about “no improvement in the technology” is also introduced but not supported later. To strengthen the response, explain the effects on productivity or costs and use a relevant example; then make the conclusion complete and consistent with your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” signal the main stages. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear: the first body paragraph moves from firing employees to delayed reports, company crisis, and closure without showing the links between these outcomes. Some connections are also awkward or repetitive, such as “and also” and repeated references to holidays. The final sentence ends with “rather than,” leaving the conclusion unfinished and weakening the overall flow. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, explain it in a logical sequence, and use linking phrases to show cause and contrast more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “working hours,” “health issues,” “company’s growth,” and “work load.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “ultimate crisis.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “long weekend holidays,” “lack of employement,” “reduce working hours,” and “worst impact.” Spelling errors such as “comapny” and “there” for “their” also reduce accuracy. These issues sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build a more precise set of phrases for discussing productivity, staffing, and employee wellbeing, and check spelling and word forms during proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “if,” and “even though.” However, complex sentences are often difficult to control, and frequent errors affect clarity. For example, “In many companies employees think that there should be reduction” is missing an article, while “if employees wanted to follow the same behaviour … then the company suffer” has inconsistent verb forms and agreement. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: “companies. There” lacks a space, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise building longer sentences with one clear main clause and correctly formed subordinate clauses. Check articles, subject–verb agreement, verb tense, and sentence endings so the reader can follow each point without having to infer the intended structure.
