Student answer (Band 5.5)

While many believe that working week should be shorter and others believe workers should have shorter weekend. Although this offer several benefits, I partially disagree that workers should have a longer weekend eventhough it particularly affect positively on mental well-being and productivity.

One major advantage of having more holiday is that people would have good mental and physical health. Individual can balance personal and work life effectively. For example,an individual with balanced weekend and weekdays will be more performative and also have time for recovery with family. This can make an individual more happy while being at office and can work more effectively for even long period of time.

While this seems more interesting I don't this this is practical and applicable for everyday life as we have to balance work and family at same pace. I do believe this rule may affect the economy in negative way, emplyoyees will have more weekend ,that would affect the annual income of many households. Travelling with families, employees will tend to be more in number at tourists places and problem of overcrowding increases that would affect the cleanliness and safety of certain areas in town.If not even a single person would be working in public areas on weekends , cleanliness with safety and crowd control will be hard to manage.

There should be a rule of balanced week rather than having more holidays. In today's world this is not practically applicable in many of the sector. Even though there are many positive factors there should be practical approach rather than an imaginative approach or impraticable approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the question and give a qualified position: you recognise benefits to health and productivity, then explain why you do not fully support longer weekends. The points about recovery and family time, and about staffing public areas, are relevant. However, the position is not consistently clear: the opening says “I partially disagree,” while the conclusion recommends a “balanced week” without specifying what change you support. Several claims are asserted rather than explained, particularly the link between longer weekends and lower household income or overcrowding. Develop one or two reasons with a clearer explanation or a specific example, and state precisely whether you favour a shorter working week, oppose it, or support a limited change.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an advantage to objections and then a concluding recommendation. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and contrast markers such as “Although” and “While” show an attempt to connect opposing views. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the discussion shifts from household income to tourism and then public cleanliness without clearly showing how each point supports your position. Some linking is also awkward or repetitive, and the conclusion largely repeats the idea of practicality rather than resolving the argument. Organise each body paragraph around one main reason, then explain and illustrate it before moving on. Use clearer references and transitions to make the relationship between claims explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “mental well-being,” “productivity,” “overcrowding,” and “crowd control,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “practical approach.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, and some errors make the intended meaning less clear. For example, “more holiday” and “more weekend” are not natural ways to describe additional time off, while “more performative” does not convey the intended meaning of being more productive. Spelling errors such as “emplyoyees” and “impraticable” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range of expressions for work schedules and use a dictionary or proofreading to check spelling and natural word combinations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concessive opening with “Although” and a conditional sentence beginning “If.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. Examples include “While many believe that working week should be shorter,” which needs an article and a clearer parallel structure, and “I don't this this is practical,” which contains a repeated word and an incomplete construction. There are also problems with agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “Individual can balance” and the long sentence beginning “Travelling with families.” Practise accurate article use, subject–verb agreement, and punctuation, and keep complex sentences shorter until you can control their clauses reliably.
