Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many people believe that working weeks should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend.I strongly agree with this statement because it may improve the persons' mental health and make them become more productive .

Firstly, a shorter working week may help to reduce the stress level and improve the workers mental health. Many people works for long hours ,which makes them tired and wrecked. As a result, they may feel less stressed and become more productive. If employees have more days off, they will enjoy much better and it will help them to work with their fresh minds and also they will start loving their jobs. For instance, workers who have more days off feel much motivated to work and relaxed.

Secondly, they have to work for many hours, which keeps them away from their familiy as well as their friends's circle. However, in this way , they will have plenty of time to chill and relax with their friends and families. They can have a lot of time to celebrate with their friends and family gatherings which is almost not possible on long working weeks. Furthermore, they become more friendly with their jobs and they can visit different places with their famiy members which may help them to gain new experience. Moreover , well-rested employees are often more productive and stay motivated with the jobs.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with this statement because shorter working hours help them to feel relaxed and have a lot of time for their friends and families.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you strongly agree that the working week should be shorter. You give relevant reasons, including improved mental health, productivity, and more time with family and friends. However, these points are often asserted rather than explained or supported with a specific example; for instance, the claim that workers will “start loving their jobs” is not developed. The response therefore addresses the task, but its ideas remain limited and under-developed. The required minimum is not met: the response is 243 words, seven words short, and the 10 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop one or two examples in more detail and ensure the response reaches the minimum length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes unclear or repetitive. In the first body paragraph, the sentence “As a result, they may feel less stressed” does not clearly follow the preceding point about long hours making workers tired, and the link between more days off and “loving” their jobs needs explanation. The second paragraph also moves through family time, celebrations, travel, and productivity without clearly prioritising or connecting these ideas. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make each sentence build directly on the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including terms such as “mental health,” “productive,” “motivated,” and “well-rested.” However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations sound unnatural, which makes parts of the argument less precise. For example, “wrecked” is an imprecise description of workers, “feel much motivated” is not a natural phrase, and “friendly with their jobs” does not clearly express your intended meaning. Spelling errors such as “familiy” and “famiy” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise, natural expressions and check spelling carefully; this will help you express the same relevant ideas more clearly and avoid repeating general words such as “time” and “work.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “which” and conditional structures such as “If employees have more days off.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “Many people works,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “they will enjoy much better,” which lacks a clear grammatical object. There are also problems with possessives and sentence boundaries, as in “workers mental health” and the missing space after the full stop in “week.I.” Some sentences combine several ideas without clear grammatical control. Practise subject–verb agreement, possessive forms, and complete sentence construction, then proofread punctuation and spacing.
