Student answer (Band 6.0)

The working week should be shorter and workers should have longer weekend. I disagree with that statement and my answer is solely based on my personal experience and evey person can have a different point of view regarding this.

For me, after having a long weekend or vacation i have always had a hard time getting back to my work routine and working as efficiently as i normally do. According to me there should be a balance and 5 working days and 2 off days are good enough.

whenever I comeback from a vacation i have felt more refreshed but at the same time it always took me a day or two to get back to my normal working hours. Even if i get a longer weekend due to some public holidays conciding with the end days of the week i have always felt that im not able to get back to the exact point of the work load and it always took me a little time to settle back. Whereas when the week goes by and in the middle of the week i feel that i can continue my work right where i left off the next day without having a big pause in between.

I can also understand the point of view of people preferring longer weekends because the performance of work might decline by the end of the week when the pressure and workload gets too much. It also depends on the place, environment and working hours. If a person is doing overtime everyday they definitely deserve longer weekends to replenish their energy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you disagree with a shorter working week, and you explain that longer breaks make it harder for you to resume your routine. You also acknowledge the opposing view that heavy workloads and overtime can justify longer weekends, so the response addresses both the question and a relevant counterargument. The personal examples about returning from vacations and public holidays are pertinent, but they repeat a similar point and do not fully explain why a five-day week is preferable for workers more generally. Develop the reasoning with a specific example or broader consequence, such as continuity for teams or the effect on productivity, and make the conclusion of your argument more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a generally coherent sequence: it states your view, explains your experience, and then recognises why others may favour longer weekends. This gives the reader a clear overall direction. However, the second and third paragraphs overlap considerably, as both describe difficulty returning to work after a break. Some links are also mechanical or unclear; for example, “Whereas” introduces a contrast without a complete, clearly balanced comparison, and “According to me” repeats the personal framing already established. Use paragraphing to separate your main reason from the counterargument, and connect each example directly to the point it supports. A concise concluding sentence would also help the argument feel complete.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss routines, workload and rest, including phrases such as “work routine,” “workload,” “performance,” and “replenish their energy.” These choices make your meaning clear, and you attempt some topic-specific language. At times, however, wording is repetitive or imprecise: “get back” and “a little time to settle back” recur, while “the exact point of the work load” is not a natural way to express your meaning. There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “evey,” “comeback,” and “conciding,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated expressions, while proofreading spelling and capitalization.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “If a person is doing overtime everyday they definitely deserve longer weekends.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in articles, sentence boundaries, tense consistency and punctuation. For example, “should have longer weekend” needs an article or plural form, and the long sentence beginning “whenever I comeback from a vacation” would be clearer if divided or punctuated carefully. Capitalization is also inconsistent, particularly with “i” and sentence openings. Practise accurate article use and sentence boundaries, and check that each sentence has a clear structure. More controlled complex sentences would strengthen the range already attempted.
