Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, many people believe that the employees should have longer weekends instead shorter weekends. I strongly believe that workers should have longer weekends to spend more time with their families and for better mental health. Also, a person can work well with rested mind. This essay will shed light on why it is significant for a worker to have short working week.

To begin with, in my opinion it is very essential for an employee to have a longer weekend. This is because families and friends are equally important. In this way they can maintain balance in their professional and personal life. For example, employee who have three days off can spend a quality time with family; consequently, not giving enough time to your family would affect your relationship. Furthermore, less working hours also help to reduce stress and improve their mental health.

Additionally, longer weekends help an individual to take rest properly to concentrate better at work. Because well-rested mind perform and concentrate better than the exhausted one. They can complete their tasks effectively. For instance, companies may benefit from the employees who are mentally stronger and motivated. Therefore, the better you rest, you will perform effectively.

In conclusion, the topic has great depth and importance. In my opinion, it is very essential for worker's mental and physical well- being to have longer weekends. Also, long working weeks may affect their relationships. In contrast, shorter working weeks would have a positive impact on their performance at their workplace.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you support a shorter working week and longer weekends, and the conclusion restates this view. You address relevant benefits, especially family relationships, reduced stress and improved concentration, and the examples about employees having three days off and companies benefiting from motivated staff help illustrate your points. The response therefore covers the task, but some ideas are more fully explained than others. For instance, the claim that less work improves mental health is asserted rather than developed with a clear explanation or specific example. The opening also briefly describes what “many people believe” without clarifying the issue. To strengthen the argument, explain the cause-and-effect links and develop one example in more detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate benefits, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical, and a few connections are not fully clear. “Because well-rested mind perform…” is a sentence fragment, while “Therefore, the better you rest, you will perform effectively” shifts to a general second-person statement rather than clearly referring to workers. The example about family time also moves from “they” to “your family,” making the reference less consistent. Use transitions more selectively and make pronouns and cause-and-effect links precise; this would make the organisation feel more fluent and controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “professional and personal life,” “mental health,” “concentrate,” and “motivated,” so the main ideas are communicated clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “shed light on” and “consequently.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “longer weekends instead shorter weekends” does not express the comparison clearly, and “spend a quality time” is not idiomatic. “The topic has great depth and importance” is also vague and does not add a precise concluding idea. Aim for natural combinations such as “a better work–life balance” and “spend quality time,” and choose specific language that directly expresses the argument rather than relying on general phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional example (“If an employee…”) and clauses introduced by “because” and “who.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “a person can work well with rested mind” needs an article, and “well-rested mind perform” has a subject–verb agreement error. “Because well-rested mind perform…” is also a fragment, while “employee who have three days off” has agreement problems. The sentence beginning “the better you rest” has an unclear grammatical comparison. Check articles, singular and plural agreement, and whether each sentence has a complete main clause. Greater accuracy in these areas, alongside your existing sentence variety, would improve control.
