IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how a biofuel called ethanol is produced.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given data provides how biofuel called ethanol is produced. There are many things are noticeable that i discuss further.
Firstly, as from the information it started with fully grown plants and trees. Furthermore, a farmer harvesting the tree and some different of plants. After that it took into the pre-processing method to make it into cellulose. On the other hand, processing will take place in this workers mainly focusing on the sugar that from cellulose.
Secondly, after processing sugar that added some microbes into ethanol and it took roughly around 1 or 2 days to complete. Moreover, after this the ethanol is fully ready for transportation thing. Such as car, truck, and plane. On the other hand, after this movable things create carbon dioxide and it is so harmful for environment so the energy take place mainly comes from sunlight and carbon dioxide this reduce some part of carbon dioxide.
In conclusion, i like to address that there are many different of steps for bio fuel production. And it is very important thing to notice that how nature comes into the play.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main stages of the ethanol production process, from harvesting to the final use in vehicles. However, the description is somewhat superficial and lacks the precision required for a higher band. For instance, the transition from 'cellulose' to 'sugar' is described vaguely as 'processing will take place in this workers mainly focusing on the sugar', which does not accurately reflect the technical nature of the diagram. While the main features are identified, the comparison and synthesis of information are limited. The conclusion is also somewhat informal and does not effectively summarise the key trends or the cyclical nature of the process shown in the diagram.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of the process. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'On the other hand' are used incorrectly, as they do not introduce a contrast in the context of the process steps. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'after this the ethanol is fully ready for transportation thing'. The flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed, making the logical progression feel somewhat forced rather than natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive language such as 'things', 'method', and 'steps'. Some word choices are awkward or incorrect, such as 'transportation thing' and 'movable things'. The student attempts to use technical terms like 'cellulose' and 'microbes', but the surrounding context lacks the sophistication needed for a higher score. There are also issues with word formation, such as 'different of plants' instead of 'different types of plants'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terminology related to industrial processes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement ('There are many things are noticeable'), article usage ('the energy take place'), and awkward phrasing ('the ethanol is fully ready for transportation thing'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several sentence fragments and run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar structures prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading is necessary.
