The diagram below shows how a biofuel called ethanol is produced.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates the production process and fate of ethanol after using as a biofuel.

Overall, this is a cyclic process which is starting from energy produced by plants and trees to assimilation of CO2 which is released as the result of bio fuel combustion. This ethanol production method followed by six steps.

First of all, plants and tress absorb energy as sunlight and carbon dioxide. These well grown trees are harvest and the pre process to form of cellulose. These cellulose undergoes laboratory process to make sugar and then microbial communities responsible for translate this sugar to ethanol. For this step, it is important to add microbes from outside to complete the ethanol production process.

After that, produced ethanol used as a bio fuel to various vehicle such as airplanes, lorries, cars, etc. Then it is tend to burn this fuel and releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. These released carbon dioxide absorbed by leave of trees with sunlight to produce the plant biomass and growth. Then again these tress can be harvested and produce the biofuel by following the same procedure.
