Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 72 words. Consequently, it can only address the task minimally. While the student attempts to provide an overview and mentions the initial stages of the process, such as growing plants and harvesting, the summary is severely incomplete and omits the vast majority of the diagram's steps, including processing, sugars, microbes, ethanol production, and the release of carbon dioxide. Due to this severe under-length and incomplete coverage of the visual data, the score for this criterion is heavily penalised.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text demonstrates some basic organisational structure, attempting an introductory sentence ("The information about the production of ethanol is depicted by given diagram") and an overall statement ("overall, it is crystal clear that..."). However, because the response cuts off after only three sentences, it is impossible to evaluate paragraphing or overall progression properly. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the text lacks the logical development expected in an Academic Task 1 response.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with phrases like "production of ethanol", "plants and trees", and "harvesting" taken directly from the prompt or standard repertoire. There are awkward lexical choices and word forms, such as "ends ups with making ethanol" and "giving sunlight". The limited range of vocabulary is sufficient only for simple communication, and the abrupt ending prevents the demonstration of a wider lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as "The information about the production of ethanol is depicted by given diagram" and "as it is presented in the diagram that plants and trees are grown...". However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including missing articles ("the given diagram") and incorrect prepositional usage ("depicted by given diagram" instead of "depicted in the given diagram"). Given the very short text, grammatical range is severely restricted.
