The diagram below shows how a biofuel called ethanol is produced.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates the production process of biofuel known as ethanol.

Overall, the process follows several steps, starting from growing plants and ending with the exhaust which releases into the air.

Initially, the process starts with the growing of plants and trees which absorbs energy in form of carbon dioxide and sunlight. Now, this tress are harvested and prepared for pre-processing where cellulose is extracted from them. After that, the extracted cellulose undergoes different processes in the industry to obtain sugars.

Following this, microbes are added to the sugars and biofuel called as ethanol is produced. In the last stage, ethanol is used as essential fuel in different modes of transportation such as cars,trucks and aircrafts which releases carbon dioxide in the air. This carbon dioxide are consumed by plants and trees alond with sunlight in the form of energy, which was the firts step in the process of ethanol production. In this way, the process continues and ethanol is produced.
