The diagram below shows how a biofuel called ethanol is produced.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates the process of how bio fuel is produced.

Overall, it is clear that the process has several steps, beginning with harvesting of plants and trees and culminating in releasing of carbon dioxide by automobiles like cars, trucks and aeroplanes.

Initially, the trees and plants absorb sunlight and carbon dioxide to perform photosynthesis, later they are harvested by tractors. Susequently, the harvested product will be pre-processed by machinary and then cellulose is formed as a result after pre-processing. Next it is sent to labs and kept in burette, and further undergoes processing to form sugars.

Following this, microbes are added to the sugars to form ehtanol. Thereafter, automobiles like cars, trucks and aeroplanes use ethanol for their movement. In the next stage, carbon dioxide is released by those automobiles. Finally, carbon dioxide is released into air. Again it is absorbed by the plants for photosynthesis, and the cycle repeats.
