The diagram below shows how a biofuel called ethanol is produced.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The process illustrates how a biofuel called ethaonal is produced, showing various stages involved in its preparation process.
Overall, the process consists of ten main stages and it is a cyclic process, beginning with absorption of energy by plants and ending with release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
At the first stage, sunlight and carbon dioxide are absorbed by plants to grow for cultivation. Next, in the harvesting stage the farmer collects all the crop. Following this, the crop is sent to a pre-processing unit. After that, cellulose is collected and then send the cellulose to a processing unit, which results in processing of sugars.
In the next stage, microbes are added to sugars for the production of ethaonal which is referred to biofuel. Subsequently, ethaonal is used in various forms of transportation such as aeroplanes, trucks and cars. From the vehicles we use in our daily lives run with ethanol releases carbon dioxide. Finally, the carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere.
