Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The rendered diagram illustrates the information about how a biofuel known as ethanol is produced

Looking at the map into more details , it may infer that In the first step, plants and trees developing with the help of sunlight and after suitable hieght these harvested by farmer with the help of tractor. In the second step, when they grow properly, tress shifted to factory for further processing after that, in factory tress converted into cellulose by machine. In the third step, the celluloses peices moved to lab for next processing.

Turning towards the rest of details, it can be clearly seen that in labs with the assist of chemicals they changed into sugars.Nextly, microbes mixed in sugars in order to make ethanol for vehicles and when they working release carbon dioxide to develop trees again.

Overall, the process of ethanol experienced with enormous changes begining with harvesting of trees and culminating at released carbon dioxide facilitates to produce energy to grow plants and vegetables again.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to summarize the main features of the biofuel production diagram, including the initial growth of plants, harvesting, pre-processing into cellulose, processing into sugars, and the addition of microbes to create ethanol. However, the response suffers from significant inaccuracies and misinterpretations of the visual data. For instance, the student mentions that trees are 'shifted to factory... converted into cellulose by machine' and then 'celluloses peices moved to lab', which misreads the linear flow and labels of the diagram (cellulose is a stage, not something converted by a machine into pieces moved to a lab). Additionally, the overview is rather vague and garbled at the end ('facilitates to produce energy to grow plants and vegetables again'). While all parts of the process are touched upon, the lack of precision and some confusion regarding the stages limit the task achievement score to Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response attempts to organize the process using transitional markers such as 'In the first step', 'In the second step', and 'Turning towards the rest of details'. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor sentence structure, run-on sentences, and abrupt transitions (e.g., 'In the second step, when they grow properly, tress shifted to factory for further processing after that, in factory tress converted into cellulose by machine'). Paragraphing is attempted with an introduction, body, and overall summary, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is mechanical and faulty due to poor punctuation and referencing. Pronoun referencing is often unclear. These cohesion issues place the response at a Band 5.0 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and form. Examples include 'hieght', 'peices', 'Nextly', and awkward phrasing like 'with the assist of chemicals' and 'microbes mixed in sugars'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'culminating' and 'enormous changes', but incorrect collocations and spelling mistakes ('develop' instead of 'developed', 'tress' instead of 'trees') impede smooth reading. While the range is minimally adequate to describe a simple process, lexical control is weak, justifying a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are major issues with subject-verb agreement, missing auxiliary verbs, and severe punctuation errors (such as missing spaces after commas and run-on sentences). For example, 'plants and trees developing with the help of sunlight and after suitable hieght these harvested by farmer with the help of tractor' lacks finite verbs and correct clause structure. Frequent errors in basic tense usage and sentence boundaries cause considerable difficulty for the reader, aligning with the Band 4.0 descriptors.
