Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear in the opening: you agree that everyone, including young adults, should save for the future. You give relevant reasons, such as preparing for emergencies, supporting family responsibilities, and paying for treatment in old age. However, the response addresses the topic only partially because several points are unclear or insufficiently explained. For example, the discussion of money showing “personality, style and taste” does not clearly explain why saving is important, and the business example is not developed to show how savings help. The point about young people having insufficient funds also needs a clearer link to your position. Develop fewer reasons with specific explanations or examples so the argument is more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and words such as “Initially,” “Furthermore” and “Secondly” signal that you are moving between points. This gives the essay some organisation. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are placed together without clear links, and some transitions are inaccurate or abrupt. For instance, the paragraph moves from starting a business to personality and then to where people save money, without showing how these points connect. The second body paragraph also shifts quickly from budgeting to employment, education and elderly people’s health. Use each paragraph to develop one main reason, and add clear linking sentences and references so readers can follow how each example supports your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “emergency situation,” “monthly budget,” “financial problem” and “crucial amenities.” These choices show an effort to discuss saving, income and future needs. However, the range is limited and many word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to understand. Phrases such as “save money can more benefits,” “live comportable life,” “prey to diseases” and “save money in blank” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling and word-form errors, including “ocassionally,” “montly” and “employeed,” also reduce clarity. Build a bank of accurate topic phrases and check that each verb and noun combination is natural before using it.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “when,” and you use future-related ideas to discuss later needs. However, the range of structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence patterns, verb forms, agreement and punctuation. Examples include “money provide basically needs,” “Saving money give have more opportunities,” and “young people have employeed.” Some sentences are incomplete or difficult to interpret, such as “In my opinion, people should that to every montly.” Capitalisation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “the future.from my perspective.” Practise forming accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking verb forms and sentence boundaries carefully.
