Student answer (Band 7.0)

Saving money is a habit from ancient times passing through generations. Every adult usually has a bit of money put aside in case of emergency or for their child's education. There has been a long debate on whether young people should save money in consideration of their future or not. I strongly agree with the fact that in account of their future, every young adult should be responsible enough to save a small amount of money.

In recent times, competition for employment has increased on a large scale. From business and engineering to modelling and sports, a huge list of qualifications are being required. In these crutial times, it is necessary that young people have enough money saved in worst case scenarios of not having a job.

There are many teenagers who are still uncertain about which study they want to major in or what career they are truly passionate about.

Having a saved amount of money will allow them to be flexible and give them an opportunity experience different paths to success. For instance, many professionals who are unhappy in their field of engineering or medicine are too scared to drop out with fear of having no money to survive.

Critics might argue that having to earn money at a young age would cause young people to lose focus on their prior goals and education.

Despite this argument being true in some cases, I believe saving money for their future can teach teenagers the value to money and give them a first-hand experience in the real world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for why young people should save, such as the competitive job market and the need for flexibility in career choices. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'modelling and sports' is a bit narrow, and the argument could be strengthened by exploring the long-term psychological benefits of financial literacy. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-focused on the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For instance' and 'Despite this argument', to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some of the linking is a bit mechanical. To improve, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the progression of ideas between sentences is more fluid rather than relying on simple sentence-to-sentence connections.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financial literacy' (implied), 'flexibility', and 'uncertain'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'in account of their future' (should be 'on account of' or 'in consideration of') and 'crutial' (spelling error: 'crucial'). You also use 'value to money' instead of 'value of money'. While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, these occasional inaccuracies prevent a higher score. Focusing on precise collocations will help you move into the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'a huge list of qualifications are being required' (subject-verb agreement: 'is' required) and 'opportunity experience' (missing preposition: 'opportunity to experience'). Punctuation is generally sound, but there are minor errors that do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more varied complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice constructions, while ensuring that your subject-verb agreement remains consistent throughout the essay.
