Student answer (Band 7.0)

During the last few decades, the economical state of the world has been fluctuating a lot. With some strong economical periods and weaker ones questions about saving money have risen in number.

While some argue that saving money has became a standard to maintain a stable financial life others believe that saving money is a waste of it and a loss in its worth.

As far as I am concerned, I truly believe that the benefits of spending money the right way outweigh the upsides of saving it.

In fact, it is undeniable that saving money has great advantages for both young people and older ones. For instance, a reserve of money could be considered as a backup for life hazards. For example, when things go wrong such as getting sick or any other major problem faced, the saved money could help cover up any damages or expenses. Moreover, saving money could lead to a more responsible approach towards spending it. None useful purchases would be considered twice and saving the money thought about.

However, considering only this perspective may overlook other important factors and lead to an incomplete understanding of the broader issue. As a matter of fact, when saving money most of the time it is nothing more than wasting it. As it's actual worth decreases from day to day in almost all countries around the world, in some more than in others and vice versa. Making spending it or using it in other meaningful ways more interesting. Smart investment of saved funds could make them go from decreasing in worth to increasing. This is even more relevant for younger audiences as time favors investments.

To conclude, even though saving money appeared to be a responsible choice it showed to have major limitations not only for young but also for older people. Hence, it is important to promote financial education from the younger ages to the whole population.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout the essay. You acknowledge the benefits of saving but argue that spending or investing is more advantageous. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the point regarding inflation and the necessity of investment. However, some arguments could be further extended; for example, the mention of 'financial education' in the conclusion is a strong point that appears late and could have been integrated into the body paragraphs to provide a more comprehensive argument. Overall, the response is focused and directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In fact', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader through your argument. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, some transitions between sentences feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the second paragraph (e.g., 'None useful purchases') is a bit awkward, which slightly disrupts the flow. Nevertheless, the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, such as 'financial life', 'life hazards', and 'smart investment'. There are some instances of word-choice errors or non-standard collocations, such as 'economical state' (should be 'economic state'), 'None useful' (should be 'Non-essential' or 'Useless'), and 'saving money has became' (should be 'has become'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring grammatical accuracy in word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'economical state' instead of 'economic', 'has became' instead of 'has become', and some awkward phrasing like 'As it's actual worth decreases'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction that occasionally affect the clarity of your points. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve your accuracy.
