Student answer (Band 7.5)
Some people believe that for individuals, including adolescents, it is important to save money for their future. I completely agree with the statement; therefore I believe that conserving funds for the future could bring many opportunities for people. Although it can be challenging for young people, especially students, to consistently save and manage their finances, I agree that the positive aspects of this habit can outweigh the negative impacts.
The main reason why people save money is to spend it on more crucial things, not on trivial ones. They can use the saved money later on their university fees, travel expenditures and to enhance the time for their leisure activities. For instance, a student in a high school could start saving up to be able to buy a smartphone later on. It is achievable for a student to collect a small amount of money on a daily basis, to get their desired equipment. Additionally, people would learn to be disciplined as they make this a habit. Researchers in the UK indicated that people who started saving up at a young age, tend to become more reserved, patient and ambitious later on.
The only drawback is that it would require long-term commitment. For young people, it can be difficult not to spend their money immediately as they are more distracted than adults. Children and teenagers desire to obtain things that are appealing, for instance, clothes and accessories. Some even spend it on excess food, such as at KFC and Pizza Hut, which consequently leads them to stay indebted. Nevertheless, they can approach it with different strategies like starting another savings account or giving it to their caregivers to save it for the future.
In conclusion, I absolutely agree that saving money can play a vital role in your financial life. Although it is believed that young people are drawn away from this habit, I assume it can be fixed through discipline and time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have clearly addressed all parts of the prompt, maintaining a consistent position throughout the essay. Your ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of university fees and the psychological benefits of saving. To reach a higher band, you could further develop your arguments by exploring the broader societal implications of financial literacy, rather than focusing primarily on individual consumer habits like buying smartphones. The conclusion effectively reinforces your stance, and the overall development is logical and well-structured.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Nevertheless', and 'For instance' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the argument, such as the benefits versus the drawbacks. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the reasons for saving to the challenges faced by young people. The flow is smooth, and the relationship between sentences is generally clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'crucial things', 'trivial ones', and 'long-term commitment' are used effectively. While you use some less common items, there is room for more sophisticated collocations to elevate the tone. For example, 'stay indebted' is a bit awkward; 'accumulate debt' would be more natural. Overall, your vocabulary is accurate and allows for clear communication of your ideas, with no significant errors that impede the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures throughout the essay. Most sentences are grammatically accurate, and your control of punctuation is generally good. There are occasional minor errors, such as 'enhance the time for their leisure activities' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'tend to become' (where the comma is unnecessary). However, these errors are infrequent and do not interfere with the clarity of your writing. You show a good grasp of complex structures, which supports your ability to express nuanced ideas.
