Student answer (Band 8.5)
In recent years, saving money for the future has emerged as a widely debated issue across the globe. While it is often argued that everyone, including young people, should save money for their future, I completely agree with this perspective. I hold this view because it provides financial security and prepares people for unexpected situations. This essay will outline the main arguments supporting my position.
The primary factor driving my agreement is that saving money provides financial security. To elaborate, people who save regularly are better prepared to deal with unexpected expenses or emergencies. A clear illustration of this is if a young adult suddenly loses their job or faces a medical emergency, their savings can help cover essential costs. As a direct consequence, they are less likely to experience financial stress or debt. Ultimately, this demonstrates why developing the habit of saving from a young age creates a more secure future.
Beyond this, another compelling argument in favor of this view is that saving money helps people achieve their long-term goals. Specifically, setting aside money regularly allows individuals to pay for higher education, start a business, or buy a home without relying heavily on loans. Take, for example, many young people who save part of their income can afford university fees or make a deposit on their first house. This leads to them becoming more financially independent and confident, which reinforces the necessity of developing the habit of saving.
In conclusion, I firmly maintain that cultivating a saving habit from an early age is essential for everyone. This is primarily because it provides financial security, in addition to helping people achieve important long-term goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
You have fully addressed all parts of the prompt. Your position is clear from the introduction and is maintained consistently throughout the essay. Each paragraph presents a relevant, well-developed argument supported by logical explanations and clear examples, such as the mention of medical emergencies and university fees. The ideas are extended sufficiently to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, you could aim to provide even more nuanced analysis, perhaps by briefly acknowledging the potential challenges young people face when trying to save, which would add further depth to your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
Your essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth. You use a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'The primary factor driving my agreement', 'To elaborate', and 'Beyond this'. The use of referencing is accurate, and the paragraphing is appropriate. The flow of information is natural and easy to follow. To improve further, ensure that you vary your cohesive devices even more to avoid a slightly formulaic structure, though your current usage is already quite effective and clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'financial security', 'unexpected expenses', and 'financially independent' are used correctly and appropriately. While your vocabulary is accurate and clear, it is somewhat functional. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated or less common lexical items, such as 'fiscal prudence', 'contingency fund', or 'long-term solvency'. Your word choice is generally natural, and there are no significant errors that impede communication or cause confusion for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.5
You show good control over a variety of sentence structures. You successfully use complex sentences, such as 'While it is often argued that everyone... I completely agree with this perspective.' The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your punctuation is accurate. There is a good balance between simple and complex forms. To reach the highest band, ensure that you continue to experiment with more sophisticated grammatical structures, such as inversion or more varied conditional forms, while maintaining the high level of accuracy you have demonstrated here.
