Student answer (Band 7.0)

Savings play a vital role in securing the future of individuals and it has been argues that everyone, including the youth should save money for their future.

I completely agree with the idea that it is necessary for everyone to start saving money especially from young age. Parents generally give their children pocket money, parents should also teach their children to use money mindfully and avoid unnecessary expenses wherever possible. Developing the habit of conscious spending from an early age helps individuals to be more financially responsible. As they grow and start earning their own money, people would use their money only on necessary items. The saved money could be used to buy a house, fund education of yourself or children, invest in appropriate locations to generate a good second source of income.

In real life emergencies could come at any time. For instance if a medical emergency happens, the savings could be utilized for the treatment or if one gets fired from jobs, the savings could help sustain for some time. While saving money is important, people should also allocate some portion of income for leisure activities also. Saving is about spending mindfully at the same time enjoying your life with friends and family, occasional eating out, going on trips, etc. are also necessary.

To conclude, I agree that savings are vital for everyone including the youth but they should also know where and how much they could spend to live the wonderful human life. Savings should be aimed at generating an emergency fund, investment, future use such as education or buying a home.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of saving money from a young age. The ideas are relevant, covering both the benefits of financial responsibility and the practical necessity of emergency funds. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the points are clear, they could be extended with more depth or specific examples beyond general scenarios like 'medical emergencies' or 'getting fired'. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, but the overall argument remains at a fairly general level. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced analysis of why saving is particularly critical in the modern economic climate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as the role of parents in teaching financial habits and the importance of emergency funds. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instance' and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, but the connection between the idea of 'mindful spending' and 'leisure activities' in the third paragraph could be more tightly integrated to improve the flow. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. You use some good collocations like 'financial responsibility', 'unnecessary expenses', and 'emergency fund'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly repetitive phrasing. For example, the word 'money' is used very frequently. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms or related terms such as 'capital', 'funds', 'financial resources', or 'monetary assets'. There are no significant spelling errors, and the word choices are generally accurate, though they lack the sophistication required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'it has been argues' (should be 'argued') and 'fund education of yourself or children' (missing articles/possessives). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some run-on sentences and comma splices, such as in the third paragraph: 'Saving is about spending mindfully at the same time enjoying your life with friends and family, occasional eating out...'. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not impede communication. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would help improve this score.
