IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is a fact that saving money for the future is a vital part of our lives, including people of all ages. I completely agree with this statement because money is an essential part of our lives to purchase anything in the future. Furthermore, everyone should save or invest their money to double it.
There are many poor individuals who devote more time to earning money and saving it for their future because when they get older, they will be able to buy whatever they want. In this modern era, individuals spend more money on inappropriate things such as parties and buying costly and luxurious products, and they regret it in the future. The administration should organize events to address this issue.
On the other hand, many smart individuals invest their money in shares and valuable firms so they can double it, and this money can help them when they get older and when they need money the most. However, some fraudulent firms encourage poor people to invest and try to deceive them. As a result, many individuals invest in these companies and get themselves into trouble. The best way to tackle this issue is to invest only after fully checking and researching the particular firm.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that saving money is important for people of all ages because it provides financial security and helps them deal with future needs and unexpected situations. Moreover, investing wisely after proper research can increase savings and ensure a more stable and comfortable life in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed the prompt clearly and maintained a consistent position throughout the essay. You have provided relevant reasons for your agreement, such as financial security and the importance of research when investing. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the paragraph regarding 'poor individuals' is a bit generalized and could have been strengthened with more specific examples or a deeper exploration of the economic benefits of saving. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully extended with clear explanations or illustrative examples that directly relate to the prompt's focus on young people and future planning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You have used cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'As a result' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the idea of 'poor individuals' and the 'administration's role' feels slightly abrupt. Additionally, some of the referencing is a bit repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows more naturally into the next by focusing on the relationship between the ideas rather than just using transition markers.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. You use terms like 'financial security', 'luxurious products', and 'fraudulent firms' appropriately. However, there is a tendency to use somewhat basic or repetitive phrasing, such as 'money is an essential part of our lives' and 'buy whatever they want'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items. For example, instead of 'double it', you could use 'accrue interest' or 'generate a return on investment'. Your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to follow, and your control of basic grammar is generally good. There are some minor issues with phrasing, such as 'including people of all ages' which is slightly awkward in the context of the opening sentence. You also rely heavily on simple conjunctions. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, while ensuring that your punctuation remains accurate to maintain clarity.
