Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, people consider to say money for their future more than ever before. I completely agree with this view, increase in inflation rate all over the world, emphasizes on necessity of saving money for the rainy days.

I believe that people of all age groups, including children, young people, and elders should save money for their future. Firstly, people who had savings will be able to both ends meet even in difficult situations. For instance, during recent pandemic, many people lost their jobs, as organizations decided to reduce the number of employes and shift on virtual or hybrid modes. Secondly, due to current growing inflation all over the world, it become difficult for individuals to survive, who are hand to mouth. Finally, savings can be used to invest in side businesses, to increase overall income.

Saving for the future, is not solely important for adults. Children should also save a proportion of their pocket-money, that they can use to buy school stationary or gifts for family members or friends. It will give them self-confidence, as well as make them understand the importance of savings from a very young age. Young people or adults should also save a part of their income, to be used later for any medical emergency or to invest in a property.

In conclusion, I am fully convinced that everyone should save money for their future or unexpected life events. It has several benefits for pupils of every age group, as it can be utilized for medical, business startups, and higher studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of saving money. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of the pandemic and inflation, and the inclusion of children's financial literacy adds depth. However, some points are slightly under-developed; for instance, the link between saving and 'side businesses' is mentioned but not fully explored. The essay maintains a consistent position throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is expanded with more detailed explanation or a more specific, illustrative example.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Finally', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the comma usage in 'Saving for the future, is not solely important'. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, covering topics like inflation, financial literacy, and emergency funds. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'hand to mouth' and 'rainy days', which are used appropriately. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'people consider to say money' (likely meant 'save') and 'shift on virtual' (should be 'shift to'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'increase in inflation rate... emphasizes on' (subject-verb agreement and preposition error) and 'it become difficult' (tense error). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are unnecessary commas, such as in the phrase 'Saving for the future, is not'. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
