To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In my opinion I strongly agree with the statement which states that it is important for everyone, including young people to save money for their future because money can solve most of the problems including financial and emotional problems.

Juveniles, adults and elders should save money instead of using all their salaries and savings because money can bring happiness and solve most of our problems. In any kind of emergency there should be an extra spare of money everone should have so that they are able to survive in that situation. If someone is having an issue with their health either it's physcial or mental they can have medical treatment from the best doctors and psychiatrist only then if they can affort their fee. One major event during the recent time is COVID-19 in which many people lost their jobs around the world including America, Europe and Asia due to lock down of complete cities and countries. It was a difficult time for everyone but the one who had money saved survived that period with alot more ease than the ones who had nothing. So there is no gurantee that a person have a job will have it forever in future. There should be some savings for the coming days that if any unfavourable situation happens they can survive those days.

In modern world a person having money saved will survive with so much ease rather than the person with no savings at all. Young ones should save for their future becasue they are energetic in that age but they won't be able to work forever. They will be retiring some day and the saving will help them to maintain a good life standard after the retiring period

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of saving money. The ideas are relevant, particularly the mention of emergency funds and the COVID-19 pandemic as a supporting example. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the argument that money solves problems is restated multiple times without significant expansion. To reach a higher band, you should explore more nuanced aspects of the topic, such as the psychological benefits of financial security or the role of compound interest for young people, rather than focusing primarily on survival during emergencies.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the general importance of saving to specific examples like COVID-19, and finally to the long-term benefits for young people. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'In my opinion', 'In any kind of emergency', 'In modern world'). The transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of the argument. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more varied linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'money', 'problems', and 'good life standard'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'physcial' instead of 'physical', 'affort' instead of 'afford', and 'gurantee' instead of 'guarantee'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific terminology related to finance and economics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the one who had money saved survived' (should be 'those who had'), 'a person have a job' (should be 'a person who has a job'), and 'in that age' (should be 'at that age'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. The errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument. Increasing the accuracy of subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will help improve your score.
