Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is contentious topic nowadays that it is necessary for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future. I firmly agree with the statement, and this essay will discuss considerable reason of this statement to save money for their future.

Money is integral part of daily life for everyone, and it is important to save money for future, as it can help whenever needed. The primary reason of saving funds for future is that it will help people in their unexpected situations such as medical emergency. People always do future planning and save funds according to their plans, but they never realize, things never happen as they planned, so people should save extra money for unexpected situations. For example, there are various serious diseases, which are common nowadays because of poor lifestyle and unhealthy diet, such as cancer, and the treatment of the cancer is very expensive, so it would be helpful for people in such situations to save money for future.

Another important reason to save money for the future is that to access of unexpected career opportunities require a sufficient amount of money. In modern era, it is common to move abroad for better career opportunities, and young generation mostly following this trend, but it requires substantial funds to move their. Saving money for everyone including young people can get benefit from this approach of saving money whenever they acquire chance.

In conclusion, saving money for future can be beneficial for unexpected circumstances and sudden career opportunities, so they will be ready for any situation and able to use different career opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on financial security for emergencies and career mobility. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding cancer is a bit narrow, and the explanation of career opportunities could be more detailed. While the task is addressed, the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band, as they tend to repeat the core premise rather than exploring the broader implications of financial literacy or long-term economic stability for young people.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Another important reason' and 'In conclusion' are standard but lack variety. Additionally, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly awkward transition between the need for savings and the specific example of moving abroad. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the cohesive links could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contentious,' 'integral,' and 'substantial.' However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'to access of unexpected career opportunities' (should be 'accessing') and 'move their' (should be 'there'). These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a lack of precision that prevents a higher score. Expanding the range of collocations and ensuring correct word forms would improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('It is contentious topic'), prepositions, and verb forms ('young generation mostly following this trend' instead of 'is following'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'Saving money for everyone including young people can get benefit from this approach.' These errors are persistent throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these errors occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency.
