Student answer (Band 7.5)
It is widely argued that putting money aside is essential for all individuals, including young people, to secure their future. I completely agree that developing a habit of saving, even from a young age, is vital for financial security and achieving long-term goals.
The primary reason why saving is important for everyone is that it acts as a safety net during unexpected situations. Life is unpredictable, and people can face emergencies such as medical problems, job loss, or economic recessions. Those who have put money aside are far less likely to fall into debt or experience severe hardship during such times. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, families with savings were able to cover the basic expenses while many others struggled. Furthermore, saving is essential for major future expenses.
In addition, it is especially crucial for youths to develop the habit of saving early. This is because of the benefit of compound interest. A person who starts setting aside even a small amount in their 20s will accumulate far more wealth by retirement age than someone who starts in their 40s. Moreover, young savers gain financial independence. Instead of relying on loans or credit cards, they can fund their own business ideas, travel, or further their studies. This reduces stress and gives them more freedom to make life choices without financial pressure.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that it is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for the future. It offers protection against uncertainty and helps turn long-term ambitions into reality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt. You have taken a clear position from the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The arguments regarding the 'safety net' function of savings and the long-term benefits of compound interest for young people are well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The ideas are extended logically, and the conclusion effectively summarises your stance. To reach a higher band, you could further elaborate on the potential counter-arguments or provide more nuanced examples of how young people might balance saving with the need for immediate spending.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the importance of saving for emergencies and the specific benefits for youth is smooth. You use a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'Moreover', which help guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. The flow is natural, and the relationship between ideas is always clear, meeting the requirements for a high band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary that is appropriate for an academic context. Phrases like 'financial security', 'unexpected situations', 'compound interest', and 'financial independence' are used accurately and naturally. There is evidence of some less common lexical items, which adds precision to your writing. While the vocabulary is effective, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic academic expressions could elevate the response further. Overall, the language is precise and contributes to a clear, professional tone throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good variety of complex structures, such as conditional-like constructions ('Those who have put money aside are far less likely to...') and relative clauses ('A person who starts setting aside...'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is solid. There are no significant grammatical errors that impede communication. To achieve a higher score, you could experiment with more diverse sentence patterns, such as inversion or more advanced passive constructions, to showcase even greater flexibility in your grammatical range.
