It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that people of all ages, especially young people, should save money for their future. I completely agree with this statement because saving money provides financial security and helps people deal with unexpected situations.

The main reason why I agree is that saving money gives people financial stability. Young people who start saving early can use their savings for higher education, buying a house, or starting a business. They do not have to depend on others during difficult times. For example, a university student who saves part of a part-time salary can pay for study materials or tuition fees without borrowing money.

Another reason is that life is unpredictable, and emergencies can happen at any time. Medical expenses, job loss, or family problems may require immediate financial support. If people have savings, they can face these situations with less stress. In addition, saving money teaches young people valuable skills such as budgeting, planning, and avoiding unnecessary spending. These habits can help them become financially responsible adults.

However, some people believe that young people should spend their income on enjoying life and gaining new experiences. While this view has some merit, I believe it is possible to enjoy the present while also saving a small amount regularly. This creates a balance between current happiness and future security.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that everyone, including young people, should save money for the future. It not only provides financial protection but also develops responsible financial habits that can lead to a more secure and successful life.

You have fully addressed all parts of the prompt. Your position is clear from the introduction and is maintained consistently throughout the essay. You provide relevant reasons for your agreement, such as financial stability and the ability to handle emergencies, and you support these with clear examples, such as a student paying for tuition. You also acknowledge the opposing view, which adds depth to your argument. The ideas are well-developed and logically extended, meeting the requirements for a high band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices effectively to link your points. For instance, the use of 'The main reason', 'Another reason', 'In addition', and 'However' helps the reader follow your argument easily. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the topic. The flow is smooth, and the relationship between ideas is clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. You use relevant terms such as 'financial stability', 'unpredictable', 'emergency', and 'financially responsible'. While the vocabulary is accurate and appropriate for the context, it is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more precise collocations or less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range. However, the current usage is natural and error-free.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

Your writing displays a good variety of complex structures, such as the use of conditional-like structures ('If people have savings, they can face...') and relative clauses ('Young people who start saving early...'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and grammar is strong. There are no significant errors that impede communication. The sentence structures are varied, which contributes to the overall readability and professional tone of the essay.
