Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today’s rapidly changing economic environment, financial security has become a major concern for people of all ages. While some individuals believe that young people should focus on enjoying life rather than saving. However, i strongly agree that it is essential for everyone, including the younger generation, to put aside money for the future. I will state my points in this essay.
First of all, life is full of surprises and not always the good kind. You might suddenly lose your job, get sick, or have to deal with some family emergency. If you don’t have any savings, you’re in real trouble. I’ve seen friends who used to spend every single penny they earned, and when something unexpected happened, they completely panicked. Some of them had to borrow money from family or even take high-interest loans just to survive. Having even a small emergency fund can make a huge difference and give you peace of mind.
Secondly, if you start saving when you’re still young, life becomes much easier later on. Think about it most people want to buy a house, go on a proper holiday, study further, or maybe start their own business one day. All of these things cost money. The earlier you begin putting some cash aside, the more you’ll have when you actually need it. Plus, saving regularly teaches you not to waste money on random stuff you don’t really need. You start thinking twice before buying expensive things just for fun, and that discipline stays with you for life.
Furthermore, another good reason is that money grows over time if you save it properly. Even small amounts can turn into something useful after a few years. Waiting until you’re older to start saving is much harder because you’ll have more expenses and less time.
In conclusion, I really believe saving money is important for everyone, especially young people. It’s not about being boring or missing out on life. It’s about giving yourself more freedom, more choices, and a lot less stress in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, maintaining a clear position throughout. The arguments are relevant and well-supported with logical reasoning, such as the mention of emergency funds and the long-term benefits of financial discipline. The ideas are extended sufficiently, and the essay maintains a consistent focus on the importance of saving for the future. While the introduction contains a minor grammatical error in sentence structure, the overall development of the argument is clear and persuasive. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points without introducing new information, fulfilling the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth, using cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore'. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and repetitive. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. Overall, the information is arranged coherently, and the reader can easily follow the writer's argument from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'financial security', 'emergency fund', and 'high-interest loans'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and the tone is occasionally informal, using phrases like 'random stuff' and 'proper holiday'. To reach a higher band, the writer should incorporate more sophisticated, academic collocations and avoid colloquial expressions. Despite these minor issues, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without any significant confusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as the sentence fragment in the introduction ('While some individuals believe... However, i strongly agree...') and the lack of punctuation in 'Think about it most people want to...'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. The writer shows control over basic grammar, but the range of complex structures is somewhat limited. To improve, the writer should focus on sentence variety and ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid run-on sentences or fragments.
