Student answer (Band 6.0)

Unanimously, in this period of modernity and globalization, many people tend to save money as it helps in emergency situations while others do not prefer saving money due to different ideology .This has been the prominent topic of discussion amongst people. Well, I strongly disagree with this given notion and the supporting view will be discussed in further paragraphs with a suitable conclusion .

Firstly, supporting my disagreement to the given statement, I firmly have a belief that people should not save money and enjoy their life . Some people keep saving their money and miss all the good things in life. Young people should focus more on investing their educational skills rather than simply accumulating funds. Although, spending money on books, education, courses, skills, will increase their chances of getting a high paid job in the future. Using money for self improvement is much better rather than simply saving it. To exemplify, as per an articles in The Times, 55% youth cut corners in saving money.

Secondly, Saving too much money can prevent young people from enjoying important things and developing social skills. Participating in hobbies ,competition and spending time with their friends to contribute to their personal growth and career. For an instance, a young person who spends money on travelling may learn about other cultures, other cuisines and become more independent and confident in their life.

In conclusion, i pen down highlighting that, though saving money is beneficial to some extent and should not be completely ignored . I disagree that it should be considered to be very important specially for young people. In my opinion young people should maintain a balance between savings and spending money on education or personal experiences .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you argue that investing in skills is better than saving, the argument could be strengthened by providing more nuanced examples or exploring the counter-argument more deeply. The reference to '55% youth' lacks context, making it feel like a generic claim rather than a well-supported piece of evidence. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed point that directly supports your thesis, and avoid contradictory statements, such as the conclusion suggesting that saving should not be 'completely ignored' after arguing against it throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the idea of 'investing in skills' and the '55% youth' statistic is abrupt. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the supporting view will be discussed', which is slightly awkward in this context. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'accumulating funds', 'self-improvement', and 'globalization'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor collocation errors, such as 'cut corners in saving money' (which usually means to do something in the easiest or cheapest way, not necessarily to save money) and 'high paid job' (should be 'high-paying'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('as per an articles'), punctuation (spaces before commas), and sentence fragments ('due to different ideology'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'I pen down highlighting that', which is not standard academic phrasing. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately without unnecessary punctuation errors.
