Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the current era, everyone should consider to save money for their future. Some people believe that saving money is beneficial for everybody, including young generation. I strongly agree with this statement because it provides financial security, boosts self-confidence, and makes individuals independent.
Firstly, it makes people independent because they can make decisions according to their choice without thinking of financial hurdles. For instance, young people can study in their dream university, without depending on parents or loans for financial needs. Moreover, they can use savings to arrange trips and tours for their family members or buy gifts for their friends. Spending money on family or friends will give them satisfaction and confidence.
Secondly, they will be able to face any unexpected events like medical emergency, loss of job, or pandemic. For instance, during COVID19, many people lost their jobs and became depressed due to financial constraints. Individuals who had savings were able to cope with the situation in a better way. Furthermore, during any medical emergency, the saved money could be used for the treatment without any delay that may prevent suffering or loss of their love ones.
In contrast, some people think that people should spend money for the present rather than saving it for their future. It should be used to make their living standard better. They should think about their comfort and spend money for that. It will make them feel happy, and satisfied.
In conclusion, I believe that although people should spend money for their comfort, a portion of their income should be saved for the hard times. It will allow them to live with self-reliance, dignity, and financial security.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-supported with examples, such as the mention of COVID-19 and the benefits of financial independence for young people. The argument is logical and easy to follow. To reach a higher band, the development of the counter-argument could be slightly more nuanced, perhaps by acknowledging the balance between saving and investing rather than just 'spending for comfort'. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In contrast' are used effectively to guide the reader. While the structure is sound, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat standard; incorporating a wider variety of linking phrases or more sophisticated referencing could enhance the flow further. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main points from the counter-argument and conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is sufficient for the task and allows for clear communication. There are some good collocations like 'financial hurdles', 'financial constraints', and 'self-reliance'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler vocabulary in places. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise, less common lexical items related to finance and personal development. For example, instead of 'make their living standard better', you could use 'enhance their quality of life'. The spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several error-free sentences, which is positive. However, there are minor grammatical slips, such as 'consider to save' (should be 'consider saving') and 'loss of their love ones' (should be 'loved ones'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more consistent control over verb patterns and pluralization. Increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using more conditional sentences or passive voice where appropriate, would help in achieving a higher band score.
