Student answer (Band 6.5)
Over the past couple decades, discussions regarding the importance of saving up money in our society have gained great traction. In fact, many believe that young people should aim to save up money, too. This essay will cover the reasons as to why I only partially agree with this statement, with extensive examples and details.
There is no doubt that saving up money comes with great benefits. It is more crucial to practice such an act now more than ever with the rapid increase in prices of goods and necessities worldwide. Not only does it aid financial stability in the future, especially when it comes to taking care of housing, food and transportation, but it also allows you to deal with student debt more adequately. I am currently a college student who has partaken in working a job previously in my teenage years, and saving up since then has helped me navigate through college debts with great ease.
However, I do acknowledge that being encouraged to work and save up money can be quite burdensome in your youth, having experienced those same issues myself. Society has normalised teenagers working part-time jobs so much that it has taken a significant toll on their mental health. Balancing work and student life is no small feat, and I do not believe that we should encourage kids to collect money in hopes of funding their future. Though those suffering from familial financial crisis should seek ways to earn money, that does not negate the fact that it is too big of a burden to be carried when you are only 14-18 years old.
Saving up money has become an unfortunate necessity in our generation, and even kids are expected to follow. Nevertheless, though it may be useful in the long run, I believe that it should not be a worldwide expectation, especially considering how pressuring it is to balance both a job and essential studies. Therefore, I only partially agree with the statement given.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all parts of the task by providing a clear position and supporting it with relevant arguments. You successfully balanced the benefits of financial literacy against the potential negative impact on the mental health of young people. Your ideas are well-developed, particularly the personal example regarding college debt, which adds authenticity to your argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that your conclusion fully synthesises your points rather than just restating your position. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In fact', 'Not only does it aid', 'However', and 'Nevertheless' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the benefits from the drawbacks. The progression of ideas is smooth, and referencing is clear throughout the text. The structure is coherent, and the flow of information is logical, making the essay easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'gained great traction', 'financial stability', and 'familial financial crisis' show a good command of topic-specific language. While the vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for the context, there is room to incorporate more sophisticated or less common lexical items to elevate the tone. You avoid repetitive language, and your word choices are generally natural and effective in conveying your intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Your control over grammar is generally strong, with many error-free sentences. There are occasional minor slips, such as 'partaken in working a job', which is slightly awkward, but these do not impede communication. Punctuation is used correctly to support the clarity of your arguments. To improve further, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, to demonstrate greater flexibility.
