Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that saving money for future is crucial for each individual including the young people. I completely agree with the statement that everyone should save money for the future, which is essential for their security of life.

There are a number of reasons why i believe that people should save money at their early ages. Firstly, Saving money in younger age is more easy as one is likely to be more productive and energetic. This money can upgrade their life standards. On the other hand, if people save money in their early ages, they are likely to be more relived in future. For instance, a person who has enough savings can ensure better future for his/her children. Moreover, young people with their savings can start a new business that will open many doors for them.

In addition, older people face health issues due to aging. The cost of treatment is relatively high that's why people should save money that can be used in case of any emergency such as any severe accidental injuries or heart related issues. Secondly, aged people are likely to be weak to earn for their lives, with enough savings their lives will be easier to manage. However, People having enough money in their accounts can enjoy their retirement, exploring new places around the world as well as within their home country.

To sum up, considering the factors discussed above, I firmly believe that people should start saving money in their early ages as no one can predict the future.`

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on financial security, business opportunities, and healthcare costs. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about starting a business is mentioned but not expanded upon with specific detail or a clear link to why this is particularly important for young people. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The response is balanced and directly answers the 'to what extent' question.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the discussion of business and the shift to health issues in the third paragraph is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, which helps the overall readability of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'upgrade their life standards' and 'relived in future' (though 'relieved' is misspelled). However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic phrasing. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'younger age' instead of 'a young age' or 'early adulthood'. To improve, the student should focus on more precise academic vocabulary and ensure correct spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'saving money for future' (missing article), 'more easy' (incorrect comparative form), 'at their early ages' (unnatural phrasing), and 'that's why' (informal). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
